Posted - Dec 13 2006 : 1:52:33 PM The university where I work part-time has a small business development center, and in August all university employees received an email about a small business development class, so I signed up. We had 12 meetings (ended last night) and covered everything needed to develop a feasability study. The program is one designed by a Kansas City entrepreneur (through an endowment when he died) that is used all over the world (forget the name, but I looked it up on the internet and it is highly respected). Anyway, I don't know how this class is handled at other small business development centers, but at this one, when we finish the class, we have the opportunity to submit our feasability study and receive a grant of up to $5,000 to start a new business or to enhance/enlarge an existing small business!
There is a small business development website, and it would be well worth your time to check and see if there's one near you. Even if they don't offer this particular class, they offer all sorts of free and very low-cost services.
Just thought I'd share!

Posted - Dec 14 2006 : 09:38:53 AM Hey, Patti - thanks! I know that Utah has small business development centers, but I haven't looked into them as much as I should - especially after reading your experience. Thanks for the information!!!
I found this website with a place to help find the SBDC in your area, too - here's the link:[http://www.sba.gov/sbdc/index.html].
XOXO, Libbie
