I finally did it - pulled together all those recipes from my blog, and some that weren't, and put them into a book. I wanted to share the publisher with my farmgirl sisters because so far, they have been really wonderful. The price for self-publishing does not include me doing every last little thing, and compared to what some want,it was very reasonable. Here is a link to the company:
http://www.iuniverse.com/

I know lots of you could write books about what you do, so this is a company that may be helpful to you.

Good luck!

One more question. Did it bother you to not have any color graphics or did you look at any publishers who offered full color throughout?

How long was the process? Do you receive royalty checks? I have been getting my recipes together for awhile, but not really looked into getting paid!! haha!

My husband has to be gluten free, I'll definitely look for your book! Thanks for the link to the iuniverse too. My husband and I have been thinking of writing a few books once we have some down time. We were thinking of one on raised bed gardens, one on gluten free goodies, and one of a science fiction comic strip I've always wanted to write. Thanks for the inspiration!

In my email inbox today:
"Congratulations, your title is live and available for purchase! You should receive your printer copy in 1-2 weeks.

Your book will appear in the iUniverse Bookstore within 72 hours and all of your book information will be completely uploaded to online retailers in 6-8 weeks. Websites upload information in pieces so you may see one format available before another or you may notice that your cover image still needs to be uploaded after your book is available on retail websites. Also, it will take an additional 3-4 weeks for your ebook format to be uploaded to the retail websites. Please give all websites enough time to fully upload your book’s information."

All I could say was "WOW!" and then a long, loud shriek! It's LIVE!!!!!!!!!

So the final approval form was faxed yesterday. That means actual copies in bookstores in about 6-8 weeks!

Again, I can't stress how easy the whole process has been, how helpful the staff has been - just really great all around.

So many of you are experts in your own right - this would be a great opportunity to share your knowledge and pick up a little "pin money" on the side.

Just wanted to give everyone a status update. I finished the draft of the index late late last night. I'll be going over it with a fine tooth comb today, along with the rest of the book, to make the (fingers crossed) final revisions. Hoping to have good news that it will be off to the printer by the end of next week. I'll keep you posted.

Oh, and by the way, did I mention the publisher has been really easy to work with so far? They have been so helpful with any and all of my questions, they offer a range of publishing packages, and have specials every so often. I took advantage of one myself, and it helped with the cost IMMENSELY! They want their authors to succeed, because that helps their business succeed.

So if you've been thinking about doing a book, but don't necessarily want to go the traditional route, this may be a good option for you. I know there are so many of you out there who really are experts, and in areas that may not get the attention of a bigger publishing house. This MIGHT be a way to share your knowledge, and maybe pick up a little extra $$$ in the process. I can't promise that any of us will get rich (still haven't found that winning lottery ticket in my couch LOL), but it may be the opportunity you have been looking for.

Just wanted to share!
