it took all day to get it done the way I wqnted but its actually printed now!!!!!
I decided not to go with a true publisher since they wanted to do it hard bond & I wanted it more user friendly...so its set up like a standard notebook with the spiral side binding, has 3 blank pages at the end for notes & things you want to remember, a small heavy plastic envelope for receipts ect......
only problem is it cost me $21.70 per book & now I have no idea what to charge for it...I don't care if I make much money but any I get is for the chickens & their feed, hay, oats ect....i want to be fair on this as I want people to use it & not regret buying it so could you all help me out her?
a little on the book:
it has real medical help not just the give it a shot or take it to a chicken vet like all the other chicken books have.
It has examples (pictures) of using reclaimed wood, buckets, pallets to make things with.
It has recipes for making safe coop cleaning, winter foods, foods for sick chickens & marigold salve
It shows you how to help making a safe run using chicken wire in the ground.
tells you exactly what vits & minerals do to help your chickens
has a poison section on plants that can harm or kill your chickens

there is more than just this so its not a small book but its not over 100 pages so its not one you really have to study to understand...its also done in 16 point print so its large enough for all to read & is easy to understand...not all done like a science book

so please any ideas of what I should charge will be of a great help to me...I would love to be rich so I could give it away but since I am not will have to charge something...lol...thank you hens...Michele'

thank you Winona...yes in my opening pages it states I am not a vet or expert or claim to be& that the reader needs to do their research & read everything out there they can get their hands on........They know up front this is what I learned to give my chickens a better, longer, healthier life.......& that it may help them someday with their chickens so they don't feel all is gone & they have to put down the chicken......yes I have learned we are a sue happy lot so I tried to be careful with it in the very beginning of the book.....again thank you though, its important...Michele'

I just wanted to add to my above post. I used to work at a feed/tack store. People would come in asking how to fix up a hurt or ill horse or even what was the best feed for (example coming up) a young orphan foal. Even though I knew what to do (I don't pull wolf teeth or do surgery on horses, everything else I can do), I was warned not to tell the customer what to do, the legalities were too great. For one, if I said something and the customer followed my advice but did it wrong, I and the store could be held liable. So, be careful in that department.

I like the idea!! I'll push it on my FB page and website if you'd like. I don't have chickens so don't have a reason to buy it, sorry!! But, I can sure help pushing it!! However, I did want to say about the medical help part...judging by what I've read on the horse forums I frequent, be sure you have a disclaimer about not being a vet and if all else fails, call the vet. Giving vet advice without a degree can get sticky if someone were to follow your advice and their chickens got sicker or died. I think it's dumb not to help others when you know the cure but in this day and age of litigious people, you have to CYA. Just like in horses, true horsemen are getting fewer and fewer and you have people who buy a 'kit' and think they are a rider. I'm sure it's the same with chickens.

Congratulations, Michele!!! It looks AWESOME!!! I can't even begin to recommend a price to you, but when you have it ready for sale, I'll happily forward the information to family and friends for sure! :) SO excited for you!!! Just a little suggestion, though? Maybe speak with local farm vets and see if they would be willing to have a sample of it in their offices to help your book get exposure... Also - you might be able to talk to farm, feed and grain stores to get it out on their shelves? I'm not sure how it would all work, but a little conversation with a few key people might go a long way and help spark some sales for you!!! At the very least, the vets and stores might be able to give you suggestions toward a fair price that will sell! And remember - all those country fairs are in full swing right now... might be to your advantage to visit farmers there and/or to set up an information booth to discuss raising chickens at home and promote your book! Good luck - and definitely keep us posted! I'll be excited to hear all about it! Hugs - Nini
