Hi! Do any of you farm girls own a bed and breakfast or camp,campgrounds ect.? If so can you share some tips with me about getting started?
Anyway here's what I was thinking were going to be building a house in the country on a ridge on our 10 1/2 acres. I was thinking we could finish the walkout basement and offer a bed and breakfast. Were we supply the food and the people cook it themselves when they are ready to eat before check out time . Clean up the few dishes and go. We'd also offer an area for a campfire in the evening and 7 acreas of woods for hikes. Were only 9 miles from the caves,15 miles from a ski resort and lakes,forests are close by as well.

Hey there! I've not owned a B & B but a friend does. Make sure your property is zoned for this..some areas actually require you to be zoned COMMERCIAL for any type hotel, B & B, etc, and may actually tax your property higher because you are making money off your property. You may also need to carry liability insurance on your place (basement) since you can and may be sued by anyone if there is accidental injury and the like on the place.
I know this sounds like extras and bad news, but it's the business part and checking with your business bureau might help in the long run.

I think that is a great idea! I'm a careatker at an old abandoned fishing resort on a remote island near the Canadian border. 35 acres and a thousand feet of water frontage. I would be so glad to hear the different ideas you try, what works, n what doesn't. This community is great for ideas.

I think it is a great idea. We look for places like that all the time. I would offer a "continental" breakfast bar - cinnamon rolls, boxed cereals, bagels, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and juice.
And don't forget the cookies in the evening. Sounds like a place I would love to visit.
We love B&Bs - nice furniture, pretty bedding jacuzzi tub, electric or gas fireplace and if we are allowed to bring our under 10 lb. dog (well behaved) I am thrilled.
