Posted - Apr 25 2012 : 2:23:09 PM So for Christmas last year, I made my 10 yr old nephew a monster. I asked him to draw a monster, and I'd make the "stuffed animal" of it. He really loves this thing and his Mom and Dad are urging me to start taking orders. They are saying that his friends love the monster too.
So do you have any ideas how to market said Monsters? Would a Blog work? And if so, how do I start one?? I know nothing about such things!!
I'm trying to post my first picture, so wish me luck!!
Thanks for any input!!
Monster hugs, Lu

Posted - Apr 26 2012 : 09:31:18 AM Oh thanks!! Your kind words and info are very inspiring!! I think I might just go for it!
The funny thing is that I saw a story on CBS morning show just the other day on a guy Dave DeVries, who paints children's monsters on canvas from their drawings. I couldn't believe it! He's a pro comic book illustrator, and so I thought maybe there IS a market for this. The monster was way fun to make too!!
Thanks again! It's always nice to know I have my friends here to bounce my ideas too and you all won't think I'm completely nuts!!
Have a great day! Lu

Posted - Apr 26 2012 : 05:38:46 AM I love your monster and I believe you would do well on ETSY. You could make the generic monster and then you could also do custom orders. Maybe no 2 monsters are alike and all monsters have a name?
Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Posted - Apr 25 2012 : 4:25:49 PM A blog would definitely help you market your monsters, and you should consider doing custom monsters (ie where a kid sends you a drawing and you make him a monster).
I started my blog 6 months ago on blogger. I've found it to be really easy, and easier than the wordpress blog I had a few years ago. Both WordPress and Blogger have free options. I chose to purchase my own domain name on Blogger, which was $10. You will probably want to also make a Facebook page and Twitter account for your monster business.
Check out every book you can get from your local library about starting a crafty business online. I recently read a GREAT one, and for the life of me can't think of the title right now. Check the titles on Amazon, and see if your library either has them or can get them for you.
Good luck, and GREAT MONSTER!!!

Posted - Apr 25 2012 : 4:05:26 PM There's a site I've seen that does this, but I think there would still be a big market for it :) You'd probably want to make some samples to put up on a blog so people can see what you can do :)
That monster is awesome!
