Posted - Jul 26 2011 : 2:30:50 PM Well, its been a long haul, but Letty Mae's tearoom is open and I couldn't be happier. I started my tea biz in 2007 (The Birds and the Teas) and did ok in a couple other venues - then I met Laurie, who opened Letty Mae's (named after her grandmother)- and she invited me to sell my tea in her shop and eventually serve tea.
At first it was just a shop - with amazing signs, pillows, aprons, and too many other fabulous items to mention - while her husband finished all the kitchen work. The kitchen is complete and the health department approves and finally the tearoom is open! The decor is fabulous - and the food is phenomenal - and the tea, well, its simply the BEST! She sells homemade soups, sandwiches, salads (with homemade dressing), cakes (also homemade), and tea from The Birds and the Teas! You can also buy packages of my tea and too many cute things made by Laurie. So, if you're in or near Morris, IL - stop in and visit a while. You'll be happy you did!

Posted - Aug 02 2011 : 06:37:54 AM Lorraine, Thanks for the information about the Morris' Farmer's Market. Do they have any organic vendors? A ride out to Morris for the farmer's market a delicious cup of tea with perhaps a scone sounds great to me!
We'll be in northwestern WI for Windy Pines and her mom, JanetF, (my cousin and aunt) 100th family farm reunion that day, but we will definitely try to get down there for the September market.

Posted - Jul 29 2011 : 05:30:07 AM Dawn - that would be great. Hope to see you soon.
Did you know Morris has a fantastic Farmer's Market on the second Saturday of the month (Aug 13 is the next one) - from 8 am to 2 pm. Its a great mix of farmers market and flea market. Its called the French Country Market by 3 French Hens. Three shop owners developed it and its really nice. It goes through October. Take care...

Posted - Jul 27 2011 : 5:42:46 PM Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words - I haven't been able to figure out the photo issue yet. Also, my website needs updating and I haven't had time for a while. There are some photos there - but I have more on Facebook. I wish you all lived closer - we could have a fantastic farmgirl party at the tearoom. Stop by anytime you're in the area - the tea's on me...

Posted - Jul 26 2011 : 3:42:31 PM How wonderful! I love the name and the connection to the past. We held my daughter's bridal shower at a tea room that sounds a lot like Letty's. It was a wonderful time and we love stopping in for tea and some sandwiches in the afternoon. Sometimes we stroll in the garden and look at all the heirloom flowers.
Good luck and enjoy.

Posted - Jul 26 2011 : 2:37:57 PM My friend's husband just got back from London and Africa. He said that he loved stopping for tea everyday at 4 because it just seemed to slow life down and even kept your blood sugar level. My friend and I are talking about doing tea for the ladies in our neighborhood once a week just to see if we can start a tradition. We both love tea rooms and I sell tea too. Ours will just be a neighbor thing. Yours is the real deal!! Congrats and good luck.
