Posted - Mar 28 2011 : 11:50:49 PM So, I just finished my training at Bastyr University's Simkin Center to become a Doula! I am so excited!
I Doula is a person who helps women through labor and childbirth. She is there to provide continuous emotional and physical support to the laboring woman, and does not do any medical tasks. Doulas are equipped with knowledge of how births progress as well as positions and techniques to alleviate pain. The most important part of a Doula's job is to ensure that the laboring woman has a meaningful and satisfying birth experience no matter what type of birth she has (hospital, birth clinic, home, high intervention, low intervention).
I am soooo excited to start attending births! I am going to be volunteering at a local organization called Open Arms Perinatal Service to help low income women or teens who are giving birth and do not have access to Doulas.

Posted - Mar 29 2011 : 06:10:58 AM Congrats Chelsea, my daughter is training to be a doula. She just needs to attend at two births and then she will be certified. She has the two clients and they are both due like...now! Could be an exciting few weeks for her.
