Are any of you Farmgirls "Commercial" photographers? I've photographed people/babies/couples/events etc. (Mostly for friends), and have enjoyed it immensely while making a little side money.
Now, however, I'm starting to do photoshoots for commercial places and businesses. What do you charge for a commercial shoot? Also, I've always just given my "Clients" links to the albums I upload the pictures to so they can order whatever pictures they want. Now that I'm looking at doing these for a business, I'm thinking of burning the images on a CD. Is this normal practice for commercial photography? I've tried to do online research, but, most of it isn't really specific.
Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

Thank you so much for your help. I went ahead and billed them by the hour, since they were looking for more website images than images for printing/display. They actually booked me for another shoot in April, so that's awesome. I've been putting up adverts for spring shoots on my fb too, so hopefully I'll get some business that way.

I talked with my sis & she said if you go to the ASMP website they detail fees for you there. Although she did warn me that they may be high, as most photogs are pretty hard up for work right now & may be lowballing quotes. |

My sis & BIl are pro photogs, & have had many large commercial clients (Longaberger, Honey Baked Ham, Hampton Inns, etc)
They are currently getting little to no work due to many companies cutting advertising in this economy & have begun to buy houses to fix up & flip, just to pay bills.
I used to work for them, & I know each quote was different based on variations in set building, location scouting, modeling fees,food stylist, extensive prop & food shopping, film etc.. They typically quoted a daily creative fee for their services & then built all of the other items around that.
I am very proud of their work & pray every day their business comes around, as they have worked their butts off to build their company for over 30 years.

They also have an extensive stock site as well (part of this link), but are not making anything on that right now either.
If you are getting work..that is great!!!
I am not much help, & if I were you, I would just come up with an hourly or daily rate for you, & build in other costs around that.
I know this is all clear as mud, but it is an area that I pray for every day.
