I was curious for you ladies that use Etsy, how do you know how to price your items? I went to see what the item I was listing was going for on the other etsy sites and was shocked to see how much people were charging for them. I truly don't think that those prices are right. So, how do I know what I should go by when choosing the list price?
Thanks
hugs
Jess

Don't know about handmade. But for vintage items, there are books, etc. that list what old things are worth.

My experience is to price it for whatever you think it's worth. Within reason,I might add, because like you,I've seen items on Etsy I really wanted but was put into sticker shock when I saw the price wanted on the item. Take into consideration the cost of the materials, posting fees, paypal fees, and make sure you get the postal rate correct so you don't lose money there. I compare prices on eBay a lot as while there are those who price into the ridiculous,on auctions you can just watch them to see what they go up to. I recommended a book in another thread in this section, which would be of help to you also. Bear in mind all these "over pricers" are helping you out because if you sell a similar item with a lot more reasonable price, guess who they're gonna buy from?

I have an etsy shop too & pricing can be tricky.
You have to remember when pricing an item on etsy that you are going to be paying the etsy fees, the listing fees & the paypal fee PLUS people are willing to pay a little more for the convenience of being able to pick out exactly what they want, straight from their own home.
I tend to price my items a little bit higher when selling on etsy but I too am sometimes shocked at the crazy prices people are asking.
Usually before I list a new item, I search for a similar item on etsy & see how its priced and go from there, adjusting my price accordingly.
