Tomorrow I am taking a computer class to learn how to download pictures. I thought that when I learn that, I would put a few items up for sell on Etsy.
As I look more and more on Etsy, it seems like everyone that sells there has a blog and face book connections and it all seems so much more complicated than I thought. I kinda just wanted a little store to sell some vintage items I had and a few handmade things. Just something simple. Will that work? Or do you have to have all the networking stuff also. Help! I am so confused, thank you , Carol

Well, I'll tell you what: I didn't know the first thing about doing much of anything on line when I started my blog and etsy shop, and I learned along the way.
The best thing for you to do is jump in and start doing it and you will be surprised at how quickly you learn about all these computer/digital camera things.
You might find you'd love to have a blog! I do have a Facebook fan page for my shop, but it's not that important to have one.
If you get on the Etsy forums when you have a problem or question, you will find all kinds of wonderfully experienced people ready to help out.
Good luck!

Subscribing to Etsy's newsletters via email is good too! Etsy now has it to where you can post coupon codes for your Etsy booth.

Exactly - you got it! The best is to add a new item, but if you don't have any new items just renew a listing for an existing item.

Megan, do you mean like adding something every day? That is kind of what I thought.

Also key is to renew items on Etsy to keep the items at the top of the Etsy searches.

Thank you for the suggestions, and I will try to check out that book. The whole computer thing over whelms me. The class was great, but we started with.....this is the on/off button so it might be longer than I thought before I post any pictures. I did learn to cut and paste though! Thanks again though, Carol

Blogs are super helpful in promoting your etsy goods-I have a "widget" on mine that does a slide show of all the products I have up for sale. Take this slow & easy-and if I may suggest a good book on getting started in selling handcrafted get a copy of "The Handmade Marketplace" by Kari Chapin. Marvelous & easy to read, she gives a wealth of info for beginners & more experienced alike.

I don't think you have to have the facebook and blog, but it does help promote your store. The thing with selling online, is that the web is HUGE. So you will need to do some promoting of your store. You can add a link to your store to your signature here. As you get more comfortable with your computer, you might decide to branch out and do a blog or facebook. (But a little warning~ They can be addictive!)

Good Luck!
