going to jump in here and ask a few questions..do any of you sell flowers at a farmer's market? I'm asking because..when we get our land ..which will probably only be about 6-7 acres...I'm wanting to do something that is a little bit profitable, as well as enjoyable..I was thinking that it would be enjoyable to grow a variety of flowers such as gladiolas and dwarf sunflowers and the like to offer at a farmer's market.
..Also since I am a photographer I was wanting to know if anyone else here was a photographer? and if so..have you ever landscaped your area to accomadate outdoor photo shoots? and if so how did you do it? I'm hoping that when we get to the land/home purchase that it will be convenient enough to town to allow the possibilities of offering outdoor photography portrait sessions to folks and wanting to create a lovely setting/natural outdoor studio if you will.. for such.
The growing of the flowers also for the farmer's market would in turn offer me oppurtunities to create floral images for notecards and canvas prints and the like. Anyhow..any thoughts on these two subjects?

Hi Jessica,
good ideas. ..and I do make a point to give folks a copy of the images...they always are very pleased..I think the closest botanical gardens would be in Tallahassee a 2 hr. drive from here...as far as I know.

Tina,
There are two things I love to do...flower gardening and photography. One good thing of taking photos of your own flowers, you can keep track of a "photo journal" of your flowers growing throughout the year.
In photographing other people's flowers, I always give them an 8x10 matted and framed of my best and favorite shot. I also give them copies of the photos that I took in an album with my stamp of my name and contact information. Some have used my photos in their advertising with credit to me.
Is there an arboretum or botanical gardens near you? Great opportunities to take photos there if there is one near you.

Hi Tina! Thank-you for the good suggestions and for your help! I'm not really looking at portraits, but just people-- like on the street, public places, etc. I'll try the image offering. I like that idea!

Terre, right now I haven't done much in the way of portraits for folks, but of the one set of engagement images I did do for a couple I asked them if they'd be willing to sign a release allowing me the oppurtunity to show or display some of the images in a portfolio or future studio to other clients and they were quite comfortable with it and signed the release.When I have seen a different type of flower on someone's property I simply ask for permission to photograph the flowers and then let them know that I will return with a print out for them of the image..they are usually quite pleased and on the plus side..I usually wind up with a specimen of said plants..hee hee, so perhaps I'm the one lucking out here.;0) but so far folks have been quite pleased to work this way on some of the things. I have not as of yet taken images of private buildings, but I would think too that if you offer them a copy of the image as a gesture of thanks that most will be pleased with that. Of course you will want to do a little bit of reading up on "model releases for private properties" do a google search and I'm sure it will pull up something on it. It is always good to cover all the bases/keep things legal...etc. Also try a search on general "model release forms". this should help. There are of course books about portraiture at stores like Books A Million that will most of the time have a small section in them that discusses this topic..I suggest you grab a cup of coffee on your next visit to such type store and thumb through the books and get an idea from those as well.Best of wishes. ~Tina

Hi! You're all so talented! I found your photography so inspiring! I am also a photographer in my part time life and have thought about doing some other things besides local exhibits (which are great). However, I'm still working on some of the nuts and bolts. How do you all handle getting releases to shoot people or their property such as animals, landscapes, barnyards, etc? How do you usually pay them and how much? I'd appreciate your sharing your wisdom as I almost always shy away from some subjects, because I don't quite know how to handle this. Thanks sp much!

I really like your photos!! I wanted to take a quick peek since I am going to begin a garden journal. My husband is the photographer in the family but I dabble in photography a bit here and there.
Your future home sounds beautiful!! There are really no big lots in Southern California within our price range.
