Posted - Sep 12 2010 : 7:33:27 PM I'm going to try to open up an etsy shop in the next couple of weeks and am having trouble coming up with a name. I would like to name it after my grandmas. My maternal grandma passed away when I was only 9, but I know she would have nutured and supported my creative side in everyway possible. And my paternal grandma told me over and over how she wished that someday I would be able to open a store. Unfortuately a traditional shop is too pricey for me, but an etsy would be wonderful!
Sooo if you ladies could please help me think up a name that would awesome!!!
I'm thinking so far that I want to use Finch in the name. My maternal grandma loved finches and had several of these beautiful birds.
A little background on my paternal grandma~ She was born and raised a traditional farmgirl, loved critters of all kinds, a big time cat lover, red birds were her favorite bird, green her favorite color (all shades of green), collected all sorts of things but mostly glassware and linens, loved working in the yard, flea markets and yardsales, her favorite season was autumn.
I'm looking for a word that will represent my paternal grandma, go well with Finch and is appealing and easy to remember. I appreciate any help you all can offer!
Hugs~ Melanie

Posted - Oct 13 2010 : 11:57:17 AM I wanted to name mine after my Grandma also, but someone had already taken "Dorothy Rose" and my Great GRandmother's name also - "Sophie Rose". I was pretty irked. BTW, my Grandmother's last name was "Bird"...... your post made me smile.

Posted - Oct 07 2010 : 08:27:19 AM I finally got my etsy store up! Some of that is really confusing, but I think I have it figured out. whew! I only have one thing listed so far. Hopefully in the next couple of days I will get more added.
I want to thank all the farmgirls who helped me think up names and who have been such a wonderful inspiration to me. There were so many great names to choose from, I couldn't pick just one that I really liked so I had my kids pick their favorite.

Posted - Sep 17 2010 : 11:40:45 AM ooooooo I love those, Nini! And thank you so much for the meanings too!!! I am a passionate person and I can show it in my work, but have never been able to put my thoughts and feelings into just the right words. Words have never been my gift and I am ever so grateful to all of you for sharing and helping me out!
I'm still working on pictures and descriptions, but I should be ready to go soon. I will let you all know as soon as I get the shop opened up.

Posted - Sep 17 2010 : 11:27:25 AM Hi Melanie! I was just thinking about your shop and came up with two names I really like:
The Felicitous Finch, felicitous meaning, "well chosen for the occasion or appropriate."
OR
The Flourishing Finch, flourishing here meaning, "being in the best of life or activity."
I like both because I think they both really capture the beauty of life in the moment - and that's something that both of your grandmothers seemed to do, and that really seems like what your shop will help people to do through the wonderful items you will offer.
'Hope that helps! I'm very excited for you and can't wait to see your shop!
Hugs,
Nini

Posted - Sep 13 2010 : 05:08:45 AM I'm going to make it a mix of handmade items and vintage things too. I make so many different things so there should always be a nice variety. Most of the vintage pieces I have ready to go in the shop are glassware and dishes, but I will be hunting for different things too. Thanks Nini!
