Dear Ladies

I have been looking closely at Etsy to sell homemade goods.
In the past I sold just at farmers markets but I would like to spend less time Saturday mornings at markets and more time here on the farm. I have been digging into Etsy, and have read comments here. What I think I need to know is what kind of information does Etsy want from you? How does one get payed ( I'm Canadian)? How do you describe your articles so the search comes up with the right hit?

Like I said I have been looking and looking at some of your sites. I'm just wondering if it is worth my efforts or just continue to sell the way I am now.

By the way I sell smocked and heirloom bonnets. My smocked bonnets at the farmers market I sold on average 30 a weekend.

That is a good idea Monica. I had not thought about gift shops.

I think you're smocking and bonnets are georgeous Marlyn. Give it a try! You could add some cards also. You do a beautiful job! another thing you could try are local nurseries in the area, some of them have gift shops, and they may sell your product, but you'll have to figure your wholesale and retail prices. Check them out!

Marlyn, You can use Etsy even if your in Canada, people from all over use it. Once you begin to create an account it is really self explanitory. I use it and like it, though I havent sold alot. I think its one of those things that you have to take the time to still promote yourself on your blog page etc. Its 20cents to list an item and I dont think they take cut after that. I have people pay with pay pal.. You would have to create a paypal account for yourself in order to use that service but it is worth it. They would also take a percentage of what the sale is, so you would want to try and figure that in when pricing your items. I think you would do well, the items that you make are lovely. Just keep in mind that it might take a little while to catch on. But hey, what do you have to lose.. If you listed five items that still only a dollar a month. Would be happy to answer questions that I might have the answer to if need be. I wish you much success with your new veture should you decide to proced.

Oh happy day!

You should check out farmgirls products link. I don't know if Canada will be included, I think it is for USA. It will be a site like Etsy but farmgirl products only. It will be getting close to being on line by June.
