My hubby got fired today; and while I am still employed and we are not completely undone, I think the time has indeed come for me to stop procrastinating and begin my Etsy adventure. I have been thinking on it for some time, as my collections of vintage items and clothing have grown.(I also have hand-embroidered items, and re-fashion items.) Every time I buy something vintage "for my shop," my husband just gives me that "yeah, sure" look.... but indeed I think I am ready to do it.Hubby set up a pay pal account for me, but that is the only step I have taken. I must admit I am a little bit scared; having never sold anything on line before. I am an extremely cautious person, and want lots of info before starting something new. i myself am thinking of starting my own shop. I'm thinking of starting one that i sell my stitcheries and hand crafted bears on!

I've had a shop on Etsy since late 2007- almost 2 years now.
Jennifer had a bunch of great things to say about selling on Etsy. I "hearted" her shop long ago!
The Etsy forums always have great info on anything you could possibly think up. Lots of advise. I'd check into those for a bit if you have the time.
My shop is certainly NOT a source of regular income for me. But I haven't tried to make it that either. I use it more to have an excuse to quilt a lot (which I love) and then to have extra money for things like more fabric (as if I need more) and other little things that I enjoy; like my subscription to MJF. Etsy paid for that! :)

I've been selling on Etsy for over 1 year now and while it is very easy to set up a shop, for it to make you a serious income it takes LOTS of work! I spend a lot of time advertising my shop by writing articles, running two blogs, keeping up my web site and constantly coming up with new and unique products. My husband was laid off last year and our shop has kept us afloat. But I work at it! And it involves the whole family. Your pictures and descriptions are extremely important. In fact, I would say that pictures are #1 in selling your products. When I first started my pics were pathetic. I sat up for hours one night studying pictures from some of the top Etsy shops. I bought a good camera and practiced like crazy. Now I actually get compliments on my pics! It takes time to establish yourself these days too because Etsy has grown so much! Don't give up when orders are scarce at first. Just keep at it. I will say that I am a complete computer moron and if I can run a successful Etsy shop, as far as computer knowledge goes, anyone can! Marketing your shop is the key. You need exposure! BTW-I love Aunt Jenny's shop! I make dandelion jelly, too!

Add me to the list of Etsy shop starters. I've been collecting things as well. I'm stumped on the shop name. Don't know why it's so hard.
I haven't even gotten to the banner yet. My little brain may burst!

Actually, I just asked another gal who knew how to do it and she made three different banners for me and I change them now and then..that was a hard one for me too. I would ask either Kay (therusticcottage) or one of the other gals with a cute etsy banner..I bet they can walk you through it.

I'm trying to set one up, too, Hosanna. And Jenny is right, it's fairly simple, except I keep having problems with creating my banner! Do you have any advice, Jenny?

HI Hosanna (beautiful name, by the way!) I have had an etsy shop for awhile..and it is really easy and fun. I do have spurts of activity and times do go by with no sales..but it does bring in a good little extra income. I have found when you list new things you tend to sell older listings too..I am not sure why. Anyway...I would say go for it. It really walks you through every step...very user friendly..and cheap to list things. If I can navigate my way around on it and figure it out, trust me, anyone can. Let us know when you open your shop!!! good luck!
