Frannie, That's interesting about the antique malls there. At the most successful mall nearby to me, the booth occupants either pay way more in rent or offset with hours worked at the mall. In my life now, I am self-employed with my husband in garden design and installation. That calls for much creativity on my part, but also bookwork hours, tax filings, etc. That's why I love my small commitment to the consignment shop that allows me to support the community and also to 'play' at being an antique/collectible seller. Isn't it great to find our own niche?

one of the great things about being in 'most' malls .. is that "I" get to do the 'shoppin' t'il i'm droppin' .. and play at 'decorating' my booth(s) .. and someone else does all the 'showing up and selling'.

I sell through a consignment shop at our Historical Society (I volunteer there, too, and help with pricing and displays). Fun to collect stuff for myself, and when I'm tired of it or want to upgrade or move in a different direction, I sell it. Or, sometimes I find stuff at Sal Army or yard sales that aren't 'me' but are perfect for the shop. I love doing this -- and I'm helping our Historical Society as well (they keep 25%, I get 75%). We have an outstanding antique mall nearby, but I don't have enough stuff to have an entire booth. . . and I don't need the commitment . . . I just buy and sell on whim.

I would LOVE to! That would be a dream! My house is too small to collect a lot of stuff but if I had an antique shop, I could collect all I wanted!!!!! How did you get started?

Call me old fashioned.
