Hi all! I'm brand spanking new to this forum and am all ready LOVING it!
I am working on a website to sell my handmade/painted wares. (most of the wares are made from recycled goods). I have been selling for years out of other folks shops and co-ops, but I'm ready to stop all of that running around and sell exclusively on the net.
I have been driving myself crazy trying to find the right name...and I keep coming back to "Sheepcott Hill" OR "Sheepscott Hill Farms". My area is known as Sheepscott Valley....the Sheepscott river runs through this area. I live "at the top of the hill". Though there is no "Sheepscott Hill"....I didn't think that really mattered.
I'd like an honest opinion....is this catchy enough?

Hi all...thanks for your ideas. Of course being the flighty girl that I am, I totally went in another direction and decided with "Maine Cottage Works". It seems to suit the style of my wares. Besides our farm has a name that I almost felt guilty about changing. It came with the house and is in big wooden letters across the top of the barn. (my hubby has lived here for 25 years...and it's always been that.) It's called "The Plenty To Do Farm".....not the greatest shop name....but it certainly suits the place!
Robin....I just love Bar Harbor. I grew up in Bangor, so it was a hop skip and a jump to Acadia. We used to do all of our school shopping there when the sales came in the fall! Boating in Penobscot Bay is my all time fave! This was my first time boating to Winter Harbor!
Randi....I've never heard of anyone being rejected at the blog....maybe Motime was down?

Jes, welcome to the connection, I am wonderfully impressed by your amazing talents! I like Lazycreek's idea for Sheepscott Hill Studio....sounds very country yet elegant.

I like seeing "studio" after an Artist's business name. How about Sheepscott Hill Studio? Immediately tells people that you are an artist and the "studio" doesn't lock you into any particular type of art.

Love your painted stuff! I feel like I've visited your shop/booth. I like the name Sheepscott Hill Farm, but wonder if there is enough of a connection between the items you are producing and the name? Just curious -- did you consider any other names? I guess, in my mind, I would expect Sheepscott Hill Farm to sell -- what? -- handmade soaps? woolen goods? jams and jellies? If you think about 'Shabby Chic', for example, or a shop near me 'Romancing the Home', those names seem to evoke a certain style or line of goods. Your 'what's in a name' is a good question! So . . . I like the name, but.... (of course, once your clientle associates your products with that name, this whole discussion could be moot). |

Jes, my husband grew up just around the corner from Winter Harbor, in Birch Harbor. His grandfather, father, brother, nephew and step-father are/were lobstermen. He has an uncle (an Alley) who fishes out of Winter Harbor. His grandparents' home in Birch Harbor is now a B&B, Elsa's. Small world. We spent today in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Your website is nice! I still have pics downloading thanks to my very slow connection. Once I finish writing this I'm going back to look around some more.

WOW! Your "bloggy" site is amazing! Your pictures are amazing! You are quite an artist. Your painted treasures are beautiful. WOW, wow, wow!
Oh, OK, you asked for an opinion on the name . . . I like Sheepscott Hill . . . boy do I wish I could visit Maine!
Oh and for the pictures . . . I put mine at Photobucket and there is an edit button that lets you reduce the size of the picture to 50% or 25% . . . it worked great for me.
