Thanks that would be great! I am also a flautist and have thought about offering lessons for that as well.

Hey Holly, I am a flute player/ex flute teacher & I subscribe to a really neat Flute List email service. Several of the teachers there have websites where they post their policies. I'll see if I can find a few & copy them for you. Some are really very good(wish I had them when I was teaching 10 years ago!)

You're very blessed with this opportunity. One of the main goals of mine is to have my own studio. I do have the degree etc, but it's scary none the less! Yeah the whole no show policy etc is a puzzler. :)

ps-- I havne't taught before because I was unsure with having no degree, being a bit rusty, however I have been praying that God would open and close doors as far as a job outside the home and homeschooling. I put out one feeler email on lessons with the home school group on post and have 5 students right off the bat so I am pressing forward.

Thanks again.

Thanks ladies! Right now I have 5 students - all are homeschooled I beleive (will actually meet them on Tues)and have taken a year or less of lessons. I have taken for a long time but this is my first foray into teaching (no degree just lots of experience). Thanks for the ideas! The hardest part for me is policies right now..... payment/no shows/books,etc.

Thanks again,

Holly

Good luck! I too teach all different instruments and voice and theory. Just see what works for you. I have a different approach than some people but my students go to county band after only a year etc and really progress. So whatever I do is working :-p Enjoy it! I think its fabulous touching others lives with music. Try to get involved with the schools. You will get lots of clientele. I have yet to do this because of my wacky schedule. Keep us posted

Our teacher waits till the children are old enough to read and understand math so she starts teaching children when they are 8 years old. fees are 12 per-session with a 10% discount for additional children in the family taking classes. Lessons are 30 minuets long. When the kids have practiced well she gives them stars when they have 10 starts she buy them a small treat either sheet music or candy which ever they choose. She does 1 to 2 recitals a year we have one tonight. the families help pay the fees for the recital halls. I don't know if this is the type of help you wanted. She also fallows the school schedule so when the kids are on vacation so is she so that they get a rest from school and piano. She also does not do piano practice the first week of school so the children can just focus just school that week.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

Good luck, Holly. I wish you lived near me. Now that we have a piano, I'm going to take lessons again (did it for a year in junior high).

Something I learned is decide what books you plan to teach from and communicate this to your local music store manager so they can order the books ahead. When the students mom goes in, the music store will already know what books you like to use. I always try to call the store when I know one of my students is close to the end of a book so they can order the next one in the series. I have tried buying the books myself, but it seems the parents never get around to paying me for the additional book fees, it is much better that they have to get them from the store.

Another thing I like to do is once in a while have a listening experience. Help your students to get inspired by listening to different composers or even the same song by a specific composer performed by different artists. I always try to find a field trip for my students. Some sort of musical, performance or play that inspires the love of music. It is quite an experience to polish a rock until it shines.

Much luck, and also wishing you lived closer to me!
Just today at lunch, I was commenting that I totally blew off the many years of piano lessons my mothe forced upon me and I really would like to learn (re-learn) to play again.

The best thing I remember about taking lessons were the rice krispie treats and cookies our teacher let us have after the recitals. The worst thing I remember? The recitals!
