I am looking at majestic mountain sage right now, and it's just sooo much info that I dont know where to start. I see some things that would be neat as additives, and I can figure out the scents and EO, but I dont know what I need to make soaps. I've NEVER done it before, but I'm gonna try it, I swear. I would like to make enough at first to experiment quite a bit, and then start selling locally and online. Does anyone have a book I could borrow? Or any helpful info online?? I would like some recipes too!
Thanks,
Cristine

I've been soaping for several years now and am on the CandleTec firums alot, they are very helpful and have tons of info if you have the time to read it. Also check out the Millers Soap website. They have tons of recipes and info there. I have found that the best place to buy oils and butters is Colombus Foods, and if you can buy in larger quantities it's much cheaper. Hope this helps a bit, and Good Luck.

do a forum search under the topic "Make it Easy" for "soap" and you will find tons of helpful information :) Soapmaking is fun and easy if you just follow a few simple rules:

Always weigh by weight not volume

Have a good and accurate scale.

Respect the lye.

Those three guidelines should see you through a lot. I just jumped in when I started making soap and it was tons of fun!

Join (at least) a couple soap forums first. The Soapdish forum and the Candletech forum are 2 I recommend, but there are many. Read the archives and do searches for topics on the forums as your questions have probably been asked and answered a bazillion times, and it just saves time.
Good Luck! It's expensive to get all the supplies you'll need over time, but just keep plugging and experimenting with recipes and you'll eventually find a blend that suits your tastes. I had no idea how addicting it would become~pretty soon you have a houseful of soap! LOL

Oh, and don't go on a soap forum as a newbie and ask for recipes. You'll ruffle feathers that way, as it took a lot of research and trial and error for most of the seasoned gals to develop their recipes and they don't take kindly to newcomers coming in and just asking for recipes. I've seen it get ugly at times. Just to forewarn.
