I've seen so many random posts for people requesting help with their Blog and Website Design...So I decided to start this thread to encourage others to share their knowledge It will help another fellow Farmgirl get her web presence started without as big a struggle. ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)
I'm going to keep adding past topics as I find them to this topic so it can become a reference in itself.
Sooooo....Please add your Tips, Techniques and other Design related posts under this thread. There are alot of talented Farmgirls around here that can contribute their knowledge We can really help one another in our business ventures and I know that's a "good thing".

Posted - Sep 05 2007 : 9:20:24 PM NVU is free HTML editing software that you can download (http://www.nvu.org). It is about the best of the free ones. I'm a professional web designer, so I'm not just guessing about that, I've reviewed a LOT of free ones.
Best inexpensive one is Namo Web Editor 2006. You can get it on Amazon for less than $100.
And finally, the DON'Ts....
http://www.badwebsiteideas.com
And one DON'T that isn't on that site yet - DO NOT put a bare email address on your site, and do NOT put a contact form on the site that you made yourself. Encode your email address, or use a form that is processed by another company (we use MyContactForm.com). Even if you have to pay for that service, it is worth it. DON'T pay for a form that you put on your site that sends the mail through your hosting! Get one that is actually processed through the provider's server (that way security is THEIR headache, not yours).
Email address security is a serious issue. Form security is an even more serious one. In either case, a spammer can make YOU look like the bad guy, and YOU get accused of SENDING spam (your email address gets blacklisted, or your hosting gets suspended for abuse). So make sure you only use a secure form that someone else has a reason to keep secure, or an encoded email address. Anyone who emails me off forum can request a script to encode your email.

Posted - Jul 22 2007 : 10:13:53 AM There are some great sites that give you free html help and codes to activate links etc.. This one is one of my favs: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-22-5074181.html Learning how to do basic html's will be very important when your wanting to build websites. I use frontpage for our charity so it shows html as well. So I can build our website and also use html if I want. My website is listed in my signature so no need to post that. Anyway God bless you all Mary

Posted - Jul 20 2007 : 1:58:47 PM I recently made the switch to wordpress. While you can upload your photos there, you're limited in space and before long (if you're a photo slut like me...can I say that here?...) you'll find yourself with no more room.
Solution? Put your pics on a free provider such as Photobucket, then import them onto wordpress.

Posted - Jul 19 2007 : 11:59:55 AM Hey Julie, Your welcome ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)
I have some basic HTML code I'll be putting a link to hopefully by Monday...
I know it was so helpful for me several years ago when my sister would email "cheat sheets" so to speak for simple HTML...it really got me up and going when otherwise I would have just been staring with that glazed over look in my eyes..LOL
As I come across more of what other farmgirls have posted I'll put a link to them in my first post on this thread....There is good info scattered through the forums. If you run across any useful tips or tuts how about cutting and pasting the topic into a post for this topic, OK?
Trina was asking the other day about the "Poll" feature at Blogspot...I've only been up with my blog for about 2 weeks so I don't know how that feature works yet...Does anyone know? If so, I know Trina needed help yesterday.

Posted - Jul 18 2007 : 5:46:24 PM For Blogger by Google...my best advice is to download Picasa for your pictures, which is free. Picasa grabs your photos without you having to do anything when you put them onto your pc. Then you can to go to Picasa and there is a link to Blogger...so if you have a blogspot blog it is pretty easy. So I go through my pictures and find one I want to post to my blog and then click on the blogger icon and it goes right to your account. You choose which size picture you want, I use medium, as the small won't let me post writings (there must be a glitch in my pc) then it takes you to where you do your writing. Give it a minute after you click publish and it will take you right to your blog.
