Posted - May 02 2007 : 12:35:42 PM Hi, So I am just a week into this site. I love it and all of the farm girls I am meeting. I have read this ETSY on a few postings, I understand it has something to do with selling handmade goods, could y'all help me understand better what it is, what you have to do to have one, who has them... etc.
Thanks,
Nik |

Posted - May 25 2007 : 08:41:30 AM ETSY is like a boutique that offers unique handmade items - sometimes edgy, sometimes mainstream... but always handmade.
It was originally designed as a place to sell your artwork (as in painters and photographers) and over time has evolved into all things handmade.

Posted - May 25 2007 : 07:44:13 AM Hi Niki,
By now you've probably had a peek at Etsy... but if you haven't, let me encourage you to! It really is fun, like everybody said. And a little bit addictive, too. I have a little shop over there. You can get to it from my blog. It's so easy to set up a little shop.. and you meet lots of nice people, too! I spend more money than I make, LOL, but hey, it's fun! Kate~

Posted - May 07 2007 : 11:50:34 PM How much traffic do you get on your Etsy site? I have had a website for about 9 years, and I make enough to pay for itself, but most of my business is from people who are reordering from shows.
How much do you do off Etsy in a month? What are all of the fees? Just very curious.... and now thinking about giving it a try.

Posted - May 05 2007 : 12:00:51 PM I like Etsy alot and find it really easy to use. It is less complicated than Ebay..at least for me. If I can do Etsy anyone can..I am NOT techo-smart for sure!! It is really user freindly. And fun!

Posted - May 05 2007 : 11:42:58 AM wow babs .. that sounds like a great idea .. but honey hunk would probably have a STROKE if i got another credit card. we only use ONE .. but this one sounds really different. is it kinda' like a phone 'calling card'? you put money into the 'card account' .. and ONLY that money can be deducted?
how does wally world make money on it?

Posted - May 05 2007 : 10:19:58 AM Oh hey Frannie! I saw the coolest thing last night and immediately thought of you.. Its a pre-paid Visa card! Apparently you can get one at walgreens and it works just like a credit card and you can "recharge it" with new funds when it runs out. No cc late fees, no annual fees it's quite the deal! For someone nervous about putting cc numbers online thats probably the best way to go! :) Babs

Posted - May 04 2007 : 9:41:50 PM Etsy has an option of either letting them deduct it automatically (on or around the 15th) or you can click "pay now" and it takes it out of whatever account you signed up with.
I have sort of a "work" account that I only keep enough money in for paying things like etsy bills, and I can transfer funds back and forth at anytime. That way if the site was ever hacked and my financial info stolen I wouldn't be financially ruined. That said, I've never once had a bad online experience with my account info or credit cards - and I do *everything* online!

Posted - May 04 2007 : 6:29:09 PM gurlz .. i couldn't figure out how etsy takes their two dimes and three and half percent .. do they just deduct it from your 'credit card'. i soooo dislike putting our credit cards on line anywhere! anyone ever have a bad experience with the credit card aspect?
i used to have 'paypal' .. but got a notice about a year ago that someone had tried to 'hack into' my account .. and paypal 'froze' it .. took me FOREVER to get my money cleared and back into my account.
i know there are good and bad stories about jus' about everything .. but lordy! it only took me once to have a lot of my own money frozen and unusable to 'skeer' me away!

Posted - May 04 2007 : 4:48:22 PM Hi Niki, You don't have to have a tax id to sign up. Tax rules are different for every state so I would check into your own states regulations there. Beyond that, theres really nothing to loose by signing up so go for it! Oh and it's FUN. :)
Kitchensqueen- I knew you were shadetree studios from our convo, but I didn't realize you were also author of the Apartment Farm blog where I happened to find myself mentioned a few days ago. ;) Thank you! I linked to you from my new blog at http://mugwortmaggiesapothecary.blogspot.com/
The really neat thing Niki about all this and blogging is that we can all network and link together, which brings in a lot of new people into our stores that might not have otherwise found us.

Posted - May 04 2007 : 09:42:39 AM Thank You all... I have checked out your stores! What cool stuff. So how does one open a store? Do you have to have a tax number? I have always wanted to have a small hometown bakery, maybe this would be a start, but with handmade kitchen items, like hooks, towels etc... Can you sell food items on there? |

Posted - May 03 2007 : 2:05:47 PM Etsy is really fun. It's so much more fun to buy and sell stuff from individuals rather than big box stores. And so neat to browse and see what interesting things people create. I have an Etsy shop too. :-)
