So, I"m starting an herbal business- I intend to expand this to include many kinds of herbal products- medicinal, culinary, as well as beauty and home (cleaning) products- probably have some sewn items in there too, like slings, doll slings, felt toys, hippie clothes, knitted and crocheted hats and scarves- anything that I can make and sell that interests me. But all that will come later. Right now, I'm developing a line of products for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

So, I need a name, so I can set up an Etsy shop. I want to convey earthy and natural, and simple. Here are some of my ideas- feel free to come up with a better one!

I was first going to use Kat's Curiosity Shop so it wasn't limited to just herbs, and my name is Kat. I liked the play on the saying "curiosity killed the cat" :)

Then I thought Simpler's Workshop might be better- a simpler is an herbalist who works with one herb at a time, or a few herbs in combination, usually no more than three- this is my style of herbalism. I believe this helps the herbalist better see which herbs are working and which might need tweaking. However, I'm making plans to live in a place called Simpler Times Village- sounds awfully similar- is that a good thing or a bad thing? What if I'm not associated with them after all?

And finally, I thought of Herbwife's Kitchen- or Herbwife's Cellar- I really like the rusticness of this sound. Herbwifery (like midwifery) is another name for old style simpler's herbalism. However, there is a blog by the name of Herbwife's Kitchen- I thought I'd ask her permission to use it for my business if I choose it- but it's not her business name, just a blog title, so that's not bad, is it?

I think right now I"m really leaning towards Herbwife - something. Herbwife's Attic?

What do you think? Got a better idea?

Just a professional opinion here - I think you made a good choice. Number one reason is that you have the word "herb" in your business name. That will help to convey the essence of what you do faster than anything else, and will get you a lot of search engine mileage also. In this busy world, if you are marketing anything on the internet, it is more effective to make sure your business name has the ability to be rapidly understood, both electronically, and intellectually.

Do you know Susan Wittig Albert? She's a mystery writer, and her main character has an herb shop called Thyme and Seasons- and she's done a bit more with the "thyme" wordplay- and honestly, I can't STAND it- it's fine for a fictional character, but I think it's way overdone. :)

Herbwife's Cottage it is! I signed up last night, but I don't have a CC, so I have to get one before I can sell.

Hmmm.....

Simpler Times Herbal
But that would leave out all of the other items.

Simpler Times Sutlery
Too martial

I'll think on it more, but I do like Herbwife's Attic or Cellar or perhaps Keep, or Cottage or Kichen.

Later,
G
