I would love to see some posts about creative gardening ideas! I have learned almost all i know about gardening from my grandmother. She grew up in an old farm house and has the greatest ideas! She has planted flowers in old watering cans, those old speckled cook ware pots, she would make raised flower beds from the shale behind her house. (I have also done this at my house, compliments of grammys unused shale!) She has even went as far as planting little flowers in those vintage tea cups and saucers. If anyone has any cute ideas post them!!

I have moved this old trough of ours into position to turn into a flower bed near the barn. Hopefully it is nice enough this weekend to do that.

What a cute idea about broken dishes. Now I have to go break some old dishes to put in my garden! (Just kidding) but I do like the idea.

I was a cute cup and saucer glued together and put on top of a pole to make a bird feeder. It was at a craft show and just adorable. They had mismatched plates and bowls and some glass light fixtures too. I think I will try some of those too.

I put all of my broken dishes in the garden poking up between the plants here and there. A cracked bowl sitting half in the dirt makes a happy toad house! I guess it's an old English custom. Don't really know. But I've been doing it for years.

haven't been able to read all the posts but saw a great idea tonight. If you don't want to build a raised bed or dig up your lawn, use pallets. Fill them with your soil, plant in between the wood and the wood will keep you from having to weed!

Wow it is spring again!

I saw a frog today - a real frot and it is only the middle of March in Pennsylvania. Unheard of finding frogs at this time of year here. I hope he survives if we get a cold snap.

Glad to see this is thread is still going strong. Some really creative folks here.

My neighbor has an old wheel barrow, barrel...whatever you call them...anyway, she has potting soil in and she grows her rows of different lettuce in there...the bunnies can't reach it and she can roll it wherever she needs it...it's too darn cute, I've been looking for an old one at a yard sale for weeks now.

I saw a bathtub flower bed the other day while driving through Crab Orchard, KY. I was so delighted! It looked SO cute! It had a huge spout attached to it with a hand pump...it was so adorable!

I saw a really cute idea for hanging things from a rake for decoration. I think that would be cute for a garden-attaching a rake to a fence post and hanging little trinkets from the forks on the rake...

Cheryle, it should work out well. I had climbing lilac at another home, and it just took faithful training. Every morning, at first, I'd need to weave the new little wisps and shoots, but it eventually will climb on its own. I love coffee, quiet devotional time, and pj's outside in the morning! It's my peaceful time before the crazy day starts and my 4 kiddos and dogs are up for the day...

On FB, there is a girl named Laurie. Her FB name is "tipjunkie" her post today fit right in here. I'm not at my computer, so I can't post a pic from my phone, but I can post a link if you want to hop over and see her little kid rain boot planters. Super cute!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Here is my current issue that I am working on. We redid the deck last year. I was A) falling apart and B) opened right to my next neighbors home and family room. There were stairs where the lattuce now is. I planted clamantis and a climbing rose.

I am trying to train the climbing rose along this new espallier (spelling)and am hopeful the vine will follow suit. Has anyone done this before. I like to have my coffee and read my Bible on my deck in my PJ's before I hit the tractor shop daily. I love this special time on the deck in the early am If you have any ideas to fill in the space please do share I am open to anything. Thanks!

Some of the ideas on here are amazing. I think I will cut the ladder in half and maybe try to make it like an Aframe to put some beans or flowers on in my garden.

Alexis,
If the ladder is really long cut it in half then place the two halves next to each other and bury about one rung down. Find a peice of 1 x 1 and cut it to the length for the top and make an arbor. The ladder becomes the sides and the 1 x 1 become the tops. You could also use the ladder as a fun trellis but I would place some 1 x 2 blocks under it is various areas so that you can paint behind and so that whatever vines doesn't touch the house. I use ladders to hold garden tools and supplies too! Good luck.
