Okay, picture this...
3 sisters and their 89 year Dad. Freezing cold outside, but warm and toasty inside. We all gathered around the sewing machine. I've acquired two. One for my scrapbooking and one fancy one my husband bought me about 10 years ago for my birthday...after I asked him to...with thoughts of whipping up pillows, duvets, etc...
I confess...neither have ever even been turned ON!
So, last night...after blowing the dust off..we powered up..and lo and behold...IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!
I haven't sewn one tiny thing since the 8th grade...when I never finished my skirt and my zipper was put in and taken out so many times...there were little pinholes everywhere! I don't think I ever finished that skirt or got a grade...in fact, after that fiasco...I took SHOP.
Anyway, I digress...
My eldest sister with much patience and enthusiam...gave me sewing 101 lessons...and I told her I had a vision of sewing a skirt from a checked linen tablecloth I had bought that I loved...SO WE DID! I promise...it was $6.99 for a tablecloth that was like, 60 x 102 or something. We whipped it out in no time! And the funniest thing is...my younger sister recommended we use my Dad's Fruit of the Loom elastic waistband for the waist...he was laughing and we all had the best ole time~ What a memory...
Anyway, I'm 5'9, and finding skirts I like and that are long enough is difficult...so how perfect! I'm now going to start making them for summertime. I can just picture them blowing on the clothesline! And wearing them with little tees and my J-41's!!
So, keep an eye out for cute tablecloths...what great value for the $$!

How fantastic! totally makes me think of a pair of doll pants I finished using the sleeves of a favorite nightgown. It was a really lacey frilly number that I just couldn't part with. Voila! Pants. I also made a pair of bloomers for my baby girl out of a frilly little table runner. Very fun!!! Big congrats to you and let's see some pictures! Blessings, ~julia

oooh!! It is so great that you all are learning to sew! It is soooo relaxing and making your own clothes is also so rewarding. I love that you used a tablecloth!! very creative! I was 5'9" too so I know what you mean about those skirts being short..gah!! Keep up the great work and I'll be looking forward to that pic! :)

That's great! I just learned to sew myself and I am also haveing a great time! My grandma just taught me how to sew and gave me a pretty singer machine! I can't wait to make my own clothes! I am just practicing so far...I made a cute bag and a pillow.

I too would love to see pictures.I have tons of old tableclothes, can't let one pass me by. I have often thought I should do something like that. I did use a mossy green,round one this Christmas as a skirt for the tree. One cut and I had it done. It worked great! So, maybe I should try one for me.
For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

As for the skirt...I think we're all going to make us one...all alike. Isn't that comical? If we really do, and we're not just kidding ourselves...I'll snap a photo and post it this summer!
There are 5 of us "girls" ( I use this term loosely!) * I call myself # 7 of 8...that's how many kids Mom & Dad had! Can you just imagine?? Eight kids??
