Does anyone do food as gifts for Christmas? If so please share some of the things you make to give as Christmas gifts.

Hugs!

Sometimes, I make my mother's bread and butter pickles and use them for a few family members that like them, Mostly I send oranges from my orange tree. Last year, I hardly had any oranges but this year we have a big crop. Our Summer was drier than usual and periods of July were up in the 100s area so the oranges are smaller. I tried one yesterday and they just need to sweeten up some and the upcoming colder days should help that.

I've enjoyed making Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls. Each batch makes about 7 round pans but sometimes I've put them in loaf pans which makes even more gifts to give. They are delicious!

I've done rumcakes for the last 5 years! Most everyone thats gotten them always ask if I'm doing them again this year, lol. I go into the shopette and grab the largest dark rum bottle I can get. I don't drink but its funny the looks this little gal gets!! Lol. I so enjoy wrapping them and adding a warm cider to go with it!!

April, that’s a great question!! I’ve only ever done sweet breads. I’ll have to go research and see what’s out there. I love your idea for the basket!! :)

Ooohhh, Karen, I love the bread in a jar idea. Would be cute in a little basket with cheese spread or jam and a cutting board... or, maybe even with all the trimmings for a charceteurie board in a basket gift? Would any bread recipe work?

I’ve done lots of cookies-in-a-jar gifts. Pinterest is full of good recipes. Something else that is fun to do and the recipients love is bread in a jar. Take canning jars and fill 2/3s full. Bake and then once cooled, seal the jar. Add fabric and ribbon to lid and done! :) I’ll look for the recipe and post it. :)

We would mix this up too. I remember drinking it when we had a cold. It would feel so good.

Here is the one I used to make,
Hot Spiced Tea:
1 1/2c Tang
1/2c sugar
1/2c inst tea
1tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
mix together and store in canning jars.
I think I used 2tsp per 8oz of hot water.

my computer to print out cut labels.

I am planning to bake some cookies for Christmas gifts this year. Choc-chip cookies, Orange & White Chocolate, and Raisin & Oatmeal. Homemade jams and preserves are also a nice idea with a pretty fabric cover tied over the lids!

Wow Candy, that is a lot of work! I also like to do the gifts in a jar. They make things so easy for the recipient when its needed. I did a case of them and wrapped them back up in the canning jar box for my daughter for her wedding shower years ago. She loved it! She said her husband wanted to put them out for decoration because they looked so pretty. LOL.

I make a special fudge recipe passed down from my Grandmother.
Her sister worked for Sees Candies in the 1920's and they don't make it anymore, we have the original recipe.
Every Christmas we make 50 pounds of fudge.
Since it is made only once a year, everyone craves it.
I also have done Jams & Jellies as gifts, or made cookie sample boxes.
Have fun*

Sometimes I like to send jams that I made over the Summer. Also I send cookies to a couple of people as well. Every year seems different as we are aging and health issues make it hard for sugary treats anymore

The first few years after Mom passed I made Dad a big box full of plastic bags with various mixes with instructions: Biscuits, cornbread, cobbler, soups, etc. -- all things he could mix up easily.

I've given a lot of food gifts. Cookies, fudge and divinity, jelly and jam, pickles, cake-mix-in-a-jar, and yes, fruitcake. There are still a few of us that love it.

I have given homemade cookies and fudge in decorative tins. I also did up scone recipes & the dried ingredients in glass storage jars from bachelor friends. As Michele said, make sure to include the recipe!

Personally I think a homemade gift of any kind is the best gift of all! Enjoy making your own goodies as gifts.
