Are any of you doing anything fun or special for Memorial day. I think we will go up to the lake and have a picnic and do some fishing. I guess I would like a better idea..even though the kids would love that. We all love to fish.

How about what everyone is planning on their maenu?
My niece is coming and her roomoates might come but other than that it will just be my little family. What makes it Memorial Day for us?
Hanging out our Flag, corn on the cob, fresh local cherries, watermelon, heating up the barbeque (though we have used it already!)
and potato salad. Eek! I have forgotten to have lunch - what could have reminded me of that.

I saw the neatest "permanent tent" advertised in Pottery Barn last night. Has anyone else seen it? It would be just the thing for an indoor picnic, although I bet it would get hot and steamy during the "dog days" of summer.

My nephew, his wife and two daughters are coming from Colorado to visit, so we will likely have at least one celebratory meal at my sister's house. Although she lives less than 10 miles from us, we rarely see her, so it will be fun.

I have to work on Saturday, so I'll probably fall into bed when I get home -- giving massage all day is sometimes wearing on these old bones!

And, we have some good friends from our old neighborhood who are moving back to the Jackson, MS, area in a couple of weeks. So we will have them out here for a cookout (they haven't been to our new house yet). The area surrounding the house isn't really in shape for hosting outdoor events (yet; but my husband has some awesome plans drawn up), but the kids can run around without doing any hard, so I think they'll all have fun.

Finally, I'll drive to the little town where I grew up to put flowers on family graves at the cemetery. I find it so peaceful to do this, although I worry about who will continue the tradition once my parents are gone and if/when we don't live in this area any longer (always a possibility).

Of course, the weather is supposed to be horribly stormy all weekend (starting tomorrow, in fact), so all plans could change ...

That sounds great. I just recently got my first digital camera too. I need to find a neat barn to take a picture of, for my mom in Calif. She wants to do a painting of one. She is just learning, but is already very good. Maybe I can do that while we are out on Memorial day too. A log cabin would be just as fun!!!

Aunt Jenny, I think your Memorial Day plans sound great. That sounds SOOO relaxing. I've taken a few days off work. I was originally going to Washington DC to watch the dedication of the National World War II memorial, but I can't make it now since it's all sold out. (WWII history is my major in college). Anyway, I think I'm going to take my new digital camera and drive around looking for log cabins. I'm in love with them and intend to have one soon...but until then, I just take photos of them when I see them.

Have a great Memorial Day!
