Posted - May 28 2005 : 09:39:32 AM Last night after work... I went to the cemetery with my mother, as I do most years tending the family plots. After planting flowers and cleaning headstones my mother always brings a treat, maybe cookies or fruit and we will sit on the tailgate and she will tell me stories about some of my relatives I never have met. After my husband got home from work, we picked up his dad and sister and we went to their cemetery and do the planting and cleaning thing. We walked thru the whole cemetery reading the old marble stones and seeing all the creative ideas people have been doing in honor of loved ones. While my father-in-law tells us stories about alot of the people buried there. This has become a tradition with our families. KarenP

Posted - Jun 05 2005 : 10:41:34 AM I agree, everytime I find out that someone is in the military or served in any of the wars, I thank them. I get a lot of surprised looks or shocked looks. Too many people forget that THESE people are why we enjoy the rights and freedom we do.

Posted - May 28 2005 : 10:24:37 AM Wow.That is such a nice thing to do. I do this with my mom when I get time to get home. Once year, actually found my great, great, great grandfather's grave and the rest of the family. It was a nice find in some ways. Been able to put our family tree together (at least on my mom's side) Every memorial day, especially now since both my husband and myself are in the military, I try to do something to remember those who served and are serving now. Maybe just a prayer this year because I just got off deployment myself and am busy, but they are all never far from my mind. |
