We love egg nog. Just plain with maybe a dash of nutmeg. The problem is what is in the store is not egg nog. Read the labels: they all say "egg nog beverage". Last year, we found organic egg nog by Horizon. It was great. This year it sold out fast in three stores. So, we were in a store looking at the egg nog (of course someone had to put their two cents in and tell us how many calories were in it..."go away" is what dh and I were thinking, lol). Our splurge this holiday was "real" egg nog made by a local farm. Cream, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla...OH MY! It was $9.99. I had a hard time paying that, but it was $4.99 for the fake stuff anyway. It came in a cute old fashioned type milk jug with a cow on front (I will recycle it as a vase with evergreens). It was sooooo good. Just a little bit in vintage milk glass punch bowl glasses. Worth the splurge. Do you like egg nog?

Ok, Judy! I'll be right over! Take the first left, right?
Love homemade egg nog! My dad used to make it too! Our New Year's Eve family drink.
I'll be looking for Horizon tomorrow.

Ok...I'm a little behind here but...I love egg nog too! My Dad use to make his own and added just a splash of rock 'n rye to it. It was a gallon jug so it wasn't noticeable at all. After such a yummy nog to spoil me I'm choosy about store bought. C.F.Burger isn't a bad substitute.Horizon is very yummy but so hard to find. It goes so fast in stores. Don't they know to order more. Empty shelves is a good sign that it's selling! Right?*geesh*

I love egg nog!! My sister and brother hated it when we were kids so more for Dad and I!! I bought some of the store stuff before Thanksgiving, its actually good, I've had a few disappointments in the past so I'm a little wary of it. I would love to fond some from a local dairy or farm.

I just can’t seem to drink egg nog. I love the smell of it but just can’t ever manage to drink it. The taste is not for me. Makes me sad because so many love it and it’s a holiday tradition. Maybe one day I will give it a shot again!

Real egg nog is the best way to go whether you make it yourself or buy it. Yum

I never like the store version of Egg Nog. However, I found a recipe that Martha Stewart made and it is very delicious. I make a batch every holiday and that is the only kind we have at my house.

Egg nog is the one thing I just DON'T think about making, to be honest, I make so much from scratch, it is my splurge.

Me, too! I think we've actually had it a couple of times since it first hit the shelves at the beginning of November!!! LOL! I would love to make it, but you really need the freshest eggs, which are just not available to us. The eggnog you had must've been wonderful! Have you ever thought of making it?

(I may have laughed and told those people out loud to "go away"! LOL! It's the holidays, for Pete's sake! It's not like you're substituting it for milk! But, of course, I would've said it with love, humor and a twinkle in my eye!)

Enjoy the good stuff!

Love love eggnog! We usually buy ours from EarthFare, and they stock up pretty well. I have never bought it from a local farm, but I have made my own... But that was before we started drinking raw milk. I might just need to try making my own again :) Some people like to buy expensive wines for the holidays... I like to buy eggnog and splurge on it :)
