I have two daughters (7 and almost 2)... I am trying to think of cool/fun/useable stocking stuffers. Any ideas? What do you stuff in stockings?

I posted this on another forum, but it fits well here also. When filling the stockings, I always followed on old saying I had read, "Something to eat, something to read, something to play with and something you need." It made my choices easier and while the stocking presents were different, each child knew they were getting the "same thing."
It has since become a tradition, and the children - now ages 22 - 34 - still look forward to their stocking stuffers. Just takes a little more creative thought on my part!

We couldn't afford big gifts as a kid, so my sisters and I made it our hobby to find the most outrageous or unusual stocking stuffers...

my kids like making stuff so ours are always full of craft supplies and a bottle of perfume for each kid they can only wear it on sunday or other special occasions

Erin-Julie and I must think alike but I do have kids to "stocking stuff"! Thanks for the great "shopping list", it's in my wallet already to go tomorrow.

Holy canolli Erin! That was some list! I printed it to stick in my purse! Don't have kids of my own but your ideas will make for some great inexpensive gifts for friends kids!

I go to dollar stores for stocking stuffers or the dollar bins at Target....I make felt softies and other fabric softies as well...

There are hundreds of ideas - these are just some off the top of my head....
SOCKS - bright colors, thick & fuzzy, toe socks, any thing like that...
gel bracelets
beaded bracelets
earrings
watches
mood rings or friendship rings
friendship bracelets made from embroidery floss
funky nail polish colors
lip gloss, esp. flavored lip gloss
pencils, esp. those with their names on them
novelty pencil sharpeners (come in all kinds of shapes)
novelty erasers (also come in all kinds of shapes)
feathery pens
Pens with toys on tops
pez dispensers
cool or unusual key rings
backpack charms
For boys, whistles or compass key chains
candy, esp. lifesavers, or other retro brand candies
refrigerator magnets
picture frame magnets (you can make these)
any kind of christmas ornaments
hair ribbons or bows/headbands
hats
mittens/gloves
CDs or tapes of music
books on tape/audio books
mini books
mini journals or diaries, esp ones that lock
small teddy bears or other small animals
tiny crystal animals (wrap very very well and put in a box)
flashlights
tiny purses or bags for storing special stuff (kids love pretty drawstring bags)
tiny boxes for storing jewelry
coins from other countries
stamps from other countries
those sample sized shampoos or conditioners, toothpaste, etc. from hotels
toothbrushes
sample sized jellies and jams
sample sized cookies/snack packs of cookies, crackers or gummy treats
oranges, tangerines, apples
nuts of all kinds
hard sour candy balls
tiny boxes of chocolates (Like the candied cherries)
mini waldorf dolls (made from pipe cleaners and floss)
anything miniature that could be used in a doll house
sculpey clay and molds
rubber stamps and tiny stamp pads

paint brushes

cookie cutters of all kinds - for baking or tracing
