Posted - Mar 22 2015 : 10:11:36 AM An old Anglican tradition was that the 4th Sunday in Lent was Mothering Sunday. It has been around since the medieval times. It used to be the practice that one would visit their mother and bring her flowers and the traditional Simnel cake, which were baked with an almond paste in the middle. The cakes were taken home and combined with bunches of wild flowers as gifts. For people working in service, they were given the day off to visit their families whom they may not have seen for many months.
So to all of our Farmgirl Moms, Happy Mothering Sunday!!
I'll to Thee a simnel bring,'Gainst Thou go a-mothering. So that when she blesses Thee, Half that blessing you'll give me.

Posted - Mar 22 2015 : 5:24:23 PM It's new to me too! Happy Mothering Sunday to all moms! This mom is very happy to be spending this day and a few others with her daughter and best friend, Robin, in Phoenix! Don't see her often enough . . . she lives too far away from me! CJ

Posted - Mar 22 2015 : 10:18:39 AM Winnie, thanks for bringing us this age-old tradition. I like the word 'mothering'. A mothering attitude is a FarmGirl attitude.
