Hi girls!
Inspired by Connie's (aka Killarney) recent Christmas morning picture in her Sears Catalog post, I thought it might be fun if we post some of our favorite pictures of us from when we were little.... Kind of a virtual Christmas Card of memories, if you will!
Here is one from when I had to be about five or six, I think. The Barbie Fashion Show was all mine - it was like a dream come true! And the curlers? WOW! Did I feel like a big girl! LOL! (Note: My sister received a big red car that year... We believe it was the inspiration for her passion for fancy cars, which she still holds 40+ years later! LOL!)
I also have an adorable picture of my sister and me in our little red cowgirl outfits received from my godfather one year... I am having a tough time finding it, but when I do, I will definitely have to share so you can have a good chuckle!

Thanks Grace and Lori. Lori your right, they were big kids!! My Step dad was raised on the Farm and he loved Christmas and missed Christmas on the Farm!

  It was 2 am, Our parents could not stand the excitement any longer so they woke us up, after letting us stay up late! because it was Christmas Eve! I love everyone's Pictures and stories!

Grace, it is such a blessing to have those things from your Opa... and pictures, to me, are priceless! I'm SO happy you have them, too! We moved often when we were young due to my Dad's work, so I kind of understand that need to move every so many years. I always enjoyed meeting new people, setting up in a fresh, new home, exploring and soaking in the new places... There was something so refreshing and exciting about that! But now that we've been in this same place for so long, I can't even IMAGINE what it would be like having to pack up everything and move (although, believe me, I WANT to! LOL!). The attic alone is enough to cure me of my "wanderlust!" LOL!
That is just so cool, Winnie, that you received all those wonderful keepsake family treasures! I bet every holiday season is a wonderful trip down memory lane for you! I'm getting a little bit choked up and weepy (in a happy way!) just thinking about what they must mean to your heart. SUCH a blessing!!! :) Awesome!
I hope our other farmgirl sisters will share pictures and stories, too! :) I'm sure everyone's busy with the holidays, but maybe everyone will be better able to share once the festivities settle down! :)

Hehehe, MaryJane, I missed that stack of encyclopedias. We always had a set of them too in our living room and I remember looking up topics for both school and for just curiosity.
Grace, love that pretty curly hair and little baby sister in the background. So cute!
Nini, we always had a star on top of our Christmas tree and I am proud to say, it is on the top of my tree now!! None of my other siblings were interested so Mom gave it to me years ago along with some vintage celluloid reindeer, brush trees, and cotton batting Santas. I love old vintage decorations and always enjoy getting everything out each year. I also have our family creche set too. Again, nobody else wanted it so I was thrilled to have it and it has been used for decades. I do have a few ornaments from my childhood thanks to my Mom who saved them for each of her children and gave them to us when we were adults. Just the sweetest memories!
Thanks for doing this idea, Nini, it is so much fun peeking back in time!!
Yes, the tinsel !! I haven't seen any of that either in years. It was such a part of decorating the tree each year too!

Nini, as a child of a career Army guy, we never set roots down long enough,,, so we did not have much in the way of personal posessions... Mother was able to squirrel away some 'memories' but not much.. Most of the Wolf~Achure family items came back with me from Germany, that my Opa (grandfather) bequeathed to mom and I.
I had always longed for the "Mayberry" type of life... but gypsy blood runs deep, and after 7-8 years I get antsy and am ready to move again! lol!
I would give anything to have some hand-me-down ornaments, and some of the other Holidays reminders... but thank goodness I do have a small stash of photos.

MaryJane! LOOK at you! SO adorable in your little blonde pigtails, lovingly holding your baby doll!!! :) What a beautiful family! Such a blessing! Did you notice that there's a pram in our Christmas picture, too? I can't remember whether it was mine or my sisters, but I assure you, it got PLENTY of use! :) They sure don't make them like that anymore, do they?! And you know... YOU are OUR precious gift! Without you, we would never have the blessing of each other! I can't imagine life without you and my farmgirl sisters - so much love, so much wisdom, such wonderful sharing and support... Life is good, REALLY good because of you! Because of you, EVERY day is Christmas! *<|:)} God bless you!
Winnie - he looks like the REAL Santa! WOW!! And what a lovely dress! Your Mom did an incredible job! You look so pretty and very happy! Super cute! Isn't it funny how you remember the details, the buttons? I remember when I was little how important and special things like that were to me, too! And boy, did I love my record player... I remember my grandfather bought me one of my first "big girl" 45s for Christmas one year - it was "Brand New Key" by Melanie. I can still sing every word - and even remember the routine I made up to dance for him. LOL! Oh my... does that bring back memories...
And Gracie - oh my! Look at that adorable expression on your face! And those CURLS! Lucky you! When I was a little girl, my Mom tried everything short of a perm to get my hair to curl. She'd even do those little spit-curls with the bobbie pins - eghads! I remember crying many a night for having to go to bed with those old-fashioned pink clip curlers - I hated those. How was a girl to sleep with those in? Whenever I'd roll over, it felt like my hair was going to rip clean off my head! The spongy pink ones were better, but my hair still wouldn't hold the curl past morning. My hair never wanted to cooperate - without TONS of hairspray, that is, used to the point that my hair made a crackling sound when I was hugged! LOL! (What was my Mom THINKING?!) I think that's why she gave me the hot rollers that year, but they didn't work too well, either, if I remember correctly. Personally, I wanted to look just like Marlo Thomas on "That Girl," with her smooth and shiny hair. She was so beautiful, wasn't she? Whenever I had my choice, I'd flip my hair up on the ends - just like hers! Still do quite often today! Funny, though, now that I'm older, if I allow my hair to air dry it gets a little curl to it. Mom says I'm looking a lot like Grandma as I grow older - and that I definitely have her hair! :)
Such great memories...
Do you all have any ornaments from your childhood? I don't, but I know my Dad still has that gingerbread man ornament that's in that first picture, along with a plastic ball of holly that I loved as a little girl. I think that's so cool. And my Dad was so good at wrapping lights on the tree. I loved peeking into the tree and seeing the ornaments he had hidden, revealed under their soft glow. There is something to be said about those big old-fashioned colored bulbs, don't you think?
And TINSEL! Look at all the sparkly strands of tinsel! As an adult, I'd place every strand, one by one, on our tree. It just made everything so glowy AND sparkly. I haven't seen real tinsel in the stores for a couple of years now... Do they even make it anymore? So messy, but SO worth it! :)
I don't see any of our tree toppers in the pictures, either... Did you girls have a star or an angel or something different? We had a star for years, but when I was about nine or ten, my aunt gave me this adorable stuffed angel whose face had been sculpted and covered with recycled hosiery. She was so cute - she had a button nose, and one of her fingers was lifted to her lips as if to say, "Oh, my..." My parents loved her so much, she graced the top of our tree for many years to come!

Grace and Winnie, your pics make my heart sing! It's fun to study every detail. (How about that phone!) Did you notice the tall stack of encyclopedias in my family photo? Those books helped make me who I am today.
Where we are now and where we were then is such a powerful bundle of feelings for those of us in this age group. And I must say, that Santa in your photo Winnie is the most "beautiful" Santa I've ever seen. He's like part angel or something.
Just look at the gifts that era of holidays gave me: women like Grace, Winnie, and Nini, precious gifts indeed!

That following Spring, 1963, daddy was sent to Korea...

Well, I dug around my archives and found these photos of me. The first one is of me visiting Santa in 1957 at the age of 6. My mom made me that dress and I remember the little heart buttons. We always went to Miller & Rhodes downtown each year to visit Santa Claus. I remember being very excited!!
Here I am listening to the new record player in 1954 at age 3 with some sort of doll or toy in my hand. Dig that old phone on the table in the right corner. Now that is some sort of phone cord!! LOL!!

Here is another one by Pentatonix called "Mary Did You Know" is one my favorites.I hope the link takes you to this song. Whats so cool about this band is they are using no instruments only their voices.Sometimes their are a few minor instruments but most of the times they use their voices. They do many other x-mas songs.I wanted to share this one too. Another favorite is the Drummer boy.

I emailed her back and said that it goes hand-in-hand with this post and the memories I so fondly remember about Christmas! Add the Creche, Christmas pageants at Church and school, Midnight Mass, racing to beat Rudolph home so we'd be asleep before Santa arrived, and my brother's little feet pounding down the hall toward the Christmas presents early on Christmas morning, and the song would be complete! :)
