I just realized that this is the first Easter I have not put together baskets for my kids. I've done it every year until now.
One year my Mom got us plants for our bedrooms when were growing up.
One year, for my own kids, I filled the baskets with socks, jewelry, mini-umbrellas, and other useful stuff.
I wonder if the kids will be upset if I don't make up baskets. I just plain forgot about putting them together.

Gail, this will always be a difficult holiday, I know--will be thinking of you for sure.
This is one of my favorite holidays, since a little girl, so I always look forward to Eastertide. I only do a basket for my little girl, but I do get my husband candy, because, well, he lives on candy and he would just take hers if I didn't :)
We're not doing the traditional family thing this year, we're all going to brunch at the restaurant where my husband will be working (sigh). It's a great place to dine, though, and we'll all be together, but someone else will have to do dishes!!!

Gail, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I don't celebrate Easter but Ric does, so we get chocolate bunnies.
Maybe I should make him a basket though....

We haven't done Easter baskets in a few years. Well, since the boys discovered that they really love a good dark chocolate. We have a great chocolatier up the road and I asked the boys if they'd rather have several kinds of cheaper chocolate or a good piece of dark chocolate. They all said the good stuff so I get them each a dark chocolate bunny. They cost about $7.00 each, but they last for a while and they are yummy!
I like the idea of a center basket on the table. That will definitely help dress it up a little since we only eat breakfast here.
Gail, I'll be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers this Easter in addition to anyone else I know who said good-bye to a loved one during this time.

I think these gals with the basket in the middle of the table are onto something! I hadn't considered that. This will be my husband and my second Easter by ourselves - sigh. It will be quiet, no ham this year. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Happy Easter all! Easter is a bittersweet time for me and my family. My husband and my children's father passed away 2 years ago on Easter. We miss him so much, and I have 7 grandchildren that remember him and have many loving memories of a fun, loving, Grandpa. All that being said, I am fortunate to spend the day with all my children, their spouses and my grandchildren. We absolutely do Easter baskets, remembering all of Grandpa's antics at Easter dinner and our annual egg hunt. Traditions and memories add to the meaning of our Lord's resurrection and a day that is joyous and triumphant. So I say YES!, fill those baskets, I'm going to.

Kristina - this is the very first year I'm not doing a basket for my son, and it's killing me... But he REQUESTED it. He just thinks he's too grown up for that anymore. {:( I did buy each of my guys a big peanut butter egg (their favorite), but that's all. SO sad. Instead, I think I'm just going to take a cue from my mother-in-law this year, God rest her soul, who had eight children (living) for whom baskets were needed. Like Janet, she'd take one HUGE basket, plant it in the middle of her kitchen table, fill it with Easter grass and pour in all the goodies - jelly beans, chocolate covered eggs, etc. - all sorts of treats. She would color eggs with the little ones, and have a plastic egg for each child with a little bit of money inside, too. It was the neatest tradition - especially when the grandchildren (of which she had 15) came. Everyone was always so eager to see what treats and treasures awaited in Grandma's big Easter basket, and everyone would be so excited to take home a little baggie of treats! In the neighborhood, her Easter basket was legendary, and she'd have enough to share with everyone who stopped by. Maybe that'd be a really good option for you, too, since we're so down to the wire - a big family basket of goodies, and coloring eggs for tradition's sake! Whatever you do, I'm sure it will be perfect!

It will be a small dinner here this year, my daughter is enjoying the sun in sunny Floriday, so it will be my son, hubby and me, but the ham will be just as good. My kids are grown and don't eat much sweets, so I just make a basket for the table for all of us. I do miss those days of coloring eggs though. I did last year, but no time this year.

Kristina, don't feel bad about it. After all Easter is not only about receiving baskets or coloring eggs, it's much more than that. Maybe in a way you can explain to them the true meaning of Easter and what really is important! Good luck :)
