Posted - Dec 24 2011 : 6:22:57 PM This is our first year of no children in the house on Christmas Eve. I'm already dreading the morning. Traditionally when the children were growing up we woke early to cinnamon rolls and excitement in the air. The kids will be stopping by for brunch, so I guess we start new traditions this year. I can't wait until I have grandchildren, I can start all over again!

Posted - Dec 26 2011 : 1:20:05 PM I can see those days coming for us. This year our oldest had to stay in Colorado for school (she's a vet med student and was on call at the hospital). This was the first Christmas that one of our children was not with us and it was really hard. Our younger daughter lives with us in Phoenix, so fortunately, she was with us. Our son is a freshman in college on the East Coast and he plays basketball so he could only stay a few days and we just put him on the plane so he can get back for practice tomorrow. I miss my children and I miss those sweet days when they were younger and the time between Christmas and New Years was a time of family activity. The plus side was that my dad and step-mom were here to celebrate with us and that doesn't happen very often. I really enjoyed being with them. And...I can't wait for grandkids!

Posted - Dec 25 2011 : 09:39:38 AM Hi Heather, We have our son, Jeremy, with us but, alas and alack, our daughter Robin is not! I'm really feeling "disjointed" because of it too. She will be coming up tomorrow for a few days. There has only been one other time in her life that she has not been with us on Christmas Day! We are waiting until she is here for gifts and such like. And, the fact that we have no snow . . . Colorado Christmases should be snowy . . makes it even more un-Christmas-y. So, it's kinda of a different day! Nonetheless we are enjoying Christmas music, special goodies and a turkey is in the oven. So, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! CJ

Posted - Dec 24 2011 : 7:53:43 PM I'm doing everything I can to make our Christmas filled with wonderful memories for my children and me and then when I'm an empty nester we'll both have those memories to warm our hearts. Hope you have a blessed and wonderful Christmas and are able to make new traditions that bring joy to everyone. :) My kids just opened up their Christmas Eve PJs and loved them. Now they are getting their story and going to bed so that when they wake up it will be Christmas. :D

Posted - Dec 24 2011 : 7:03:42 PM Heather, I know how you feel. It's awful quiet here too. Just me and the hubby. And he's snoozing in his recliner. Sometimes the grands spend the night but last year they were up almost all night and I like to sleep. It was not very fun for me. So this year I said no. I'll have 2 of them most of next week plus my sister and her kids and dogs. They came all the way from Col. Springs. We will go to my mom's for dinner and gifts with them and my youngest daughter and SIL. But just not the same without kids all over.
I hope you have a nice Christmas and some new traditions.
Kris
