So, it's my husband's first father's day, and I'd like to do something special for him. I was thinking about getting a picture of him and my daughter turned into a canvas painting, and getting matching pink ties for our daughter and him to wear on father's day. Any other ideas?

Writing a letter to the dad each fathers day describing what kind of dad he is, what kind of things the kid and dad did together, funniest moments of that year, etc is a cheap way to begin a tradition, and if you save them all, it will be a treasure he will love by the time the kids grow up. Eventually the children can write the letter themselves and it will be helpful when the kids get older to remember what they did with their dad and why it is important to celebrate his showing up for the job, each and every day, to raise them. (Plus it is free so it is a tradition you can maintain during the lean and the fat years!LOL)

Happy Trails!

Oh Tina, wow. What a great memory for you and such happiness for your husband. As we are expecting our first I will have to remember this next year. You ladies are an inspiration.

I traced my oldest son's hand when he was about 2 weeks old, then came up with a story that I needed a tracing of my husbands hand to make him some gloves, hehehe, I re-traced them on thin cardstock, cut them out and made some photo copies of their baby pics bigger than the hands, glued them on and cut off excess, then put them in a double frame, it actualy brought tears to my husbands rancher eyes when he opened the wrapping, so with each childs birth I did the same thing for him, they hung on his side of the bed, and when he was sick and dying, he held them when he took his last breath...they are still hanging on his side of the bed, and always will...

That sounds so cute, Megan! When our son was little, I handpainted a plaque for my husband with our son's handprints and the poem about what really matters about a father in his child's life - it's still on the wall in our room to this day! We had also made a similar "Baby's First Christmas" canvas wall hanging with our son's handprints, too - makes me cry every time I see it! :)

Happy First Father's Day to your Hubby!!!

Hugs -
