My husband and I are both from large families, and we all live in the same town. This year we are going to my Mom and Dad's to eat and then stopping by his parents for a visit. This is the first year in our marriage that we won't eat two turkey dinners on top of each other. Friday, we stay home and I cook Thanksgiving dinner for the seven of us. We are considering making the move to stay home for Thanksgiving next year - we have five kids and the oldest is a teenager and I would like her to have memories of celebrating at home - like I do from growing up. It is a hard move to make though because we could invite our parents but inviting our siblings would be thirty or more -too hard. I love traditions but it is a little painful when it is time for them to evolve. What do you do - travel, stay at home with immediate family or have a huge bunch over to celebrate?

It will just be 3 of us this year. Our families lives out of state and my married children will be at the in-laws this year. We might be eating leftovers for quite a while since I'm not sure I've ever cooked Thanksgiving dinner for just 3!

I cook 2 20lb turkeys in a wonderfully huge tukey pan I found a few years ago. I have found that 2 20lbers will sit side by side in the pan sideways since the pan is supposed to be for a 36lb bird and is listed as an extra tall lid. It is as tall as it is long and is as wide as most raosters are long. I paid nearly $50 for it, but we also use it for storin cakes we bake for parties to keep the cats at bay. My Hubby likes to make 3 and 4 layer cakes and they won't fit in a normal cake holder, so we use the big pan! It has been totally worth the cost. We also have a huge stockpot that is a 3 gallon capacity. It takes 2 burners on the stove, but makes enough noodles to leave leftovers for us for another dinner for my 6-person family. It was a $30 investment that I wouldn't trade for anything. It can be used to store all kinds of things and can be turned upside-down to cover my middle girls favorite 10 layer rainbow cake that she has to have every year for her birthday. I usually need 3-4 days of noodle makin to have enough homemade noodles to fill that pan, so plan ahead if your gonna try to fill a pan like that by hand! Just a little experience talkin from someone who set up all night the first year makin noodles 2 days before Thanksgiving!

Usually we're home, but this year we're traveling to celebrate Thanksgiving with my Mother and Stepdad. I am very, very excited! This is the first time in years I won't be hosting, cooking or baking for the holiday - she is so excited, she has taken the day before the holiday off from work to prepare all sorts of wonderful foods! We have a whole weekend of festivities planned, including a special tea on Friday for just my Mom and I at a fancy little tearoom near their home - how special is that!? We plan to play board games, look at old photographs, get some Christmas sight-seeing in as a family, as well as a little Christmas shopping. It's going to be so much fun! I can hardly wait! Have a blessed Thanksgiving, everyone! - Nini
