I love St Charles, Missouri during Christmas season. In old St. Charles they do an awesome Dickens like street Christmas. All the Christmas personifications from Santa Lucia to Father Christmas stroll around, all the Dickens characters, Tiny Tim. The shops pull out all the stops to offer a great Christmas shopping experience.

The best part? A cross stitch shop and a quilt shop are right next to each other and the yarn shop is across the street AND a pretty good book shop is at the end of the block. Roasted chestnuts, street carolers and a daily parade complete the day. Oh and great restaurants, antique and specialty stores. Definitely worth the trip.

What other places do you know?

I have never been some place other than my own home for christmas. Lewiston Id has a nicly lit park. I think Dallas had maybe the best I think it was about 4 blocks long and all the houses were lit up like crazy and some one put thousands of white lights in a big old tree and then sprayed it with water and it froze that was kinda of neat. But I have never traveled any place for thanksgiving or christmas.

Huh never thought about it.

Merry,
Wow, I love St Charles. But I have never been there during Christmas, only in the summertime. That sounds so cool. I would love that. We used to visit Silver Dollar City, as we are only about 45 minutes from there. They too have carolers, and a huge tree that is so awesome, as it lights up to Christmas music, a train ride that stops for Grandpa telling the Christmas Story, and millions of lights everywhere. Hot Chocolate on the square. Another really cool place is the Dixie Stampede for Christmas. They have a live nativity and it is just fantastic. All those places have gotten quite expensive, but a place like St Charles sounds just wonderful. May have to visit our realtives that live there this Christmas season. We also, here in our town, have a drive in live nativity that is very good. You sit in your car, and tune your radio to a local station to hear all they are saying. Oh how I love this time of year.
Thank You for sharing,
Sheri

We were in Alexandria, VA for Christmas a few years ago and stayed in Old Town near the river. All the shops were decorated in old Williamsburg style - where they use fruit on the wreaths and garlands. The Christ Church where George Washington use to worship was also decorated for Christmas. Kinda a cool area to be in during the holidays. Also many of the street lamps are gas flame lit.
