Posted - Sep 28 2009 : 12:11:24 PM Hi everyone. Decorating doesn't need to be expensive. Here's one idea that almost everyone can make. You need a clean pint or quart canning jar. Fill one third full with sugar or salt. Pick off some small branches of a tree outside and put inside. You can decorate it with anything tiny; tags, funny paper cutouts, red stickers, green or red yarn bows, or whatever. Put on the lid and tie with a ribbon. It makes a nice centerpiece. If you need a recipe for homemade playdough, let me know, I'll post. These can be colored with pens, paints, chalk or food coloring. Let the kids (us oldies are kids inside)make their favorite animals, pets, people, etc. What can we farmgirls come up with to help each other?

This is the first holiday season I've looked forward to in a bit. In part because i want to make as much as i can. Wish I had someone to make them with.

Posted - Sep 28 2009 : 12:49:21 PM The homemade playdough sounds like it would be right up our alley here. Tori is 4 and Levi will be 3 in February. Whatever is safe, keeps their hands busy, and is different is always a welcome thing at our house! :)
Thanks for sharing these ideas! I love the idea for the centerpiece, especially as it has a lid. (It gives me running time before the kids get it open to realize they are in it. :D

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
