When do most of you ladies put out your Christmas decorations?
I am biting at the bullet!!!!!!! I have not put out Christmas decorations since 2007. My DH says that August is much too early.
Maybe so.

I'm decorated for fall right now and that will stay up until the day after Thanksgiving. The more halloween decorations go up in late Sept. and I take those down Nov. 1st. Then the day or weekend after Thanksgiving I take the rest of the fall decorations down and put up the Christmas decorations. I will take them down the day after New Years.

I am happy to be decorating for fall! I LOVE autumn and the dried flowers and the muted colors, and I am so happy to be leaving summer. Christmas......still a ways off in my mind!

Oh, I almost forgot my barn collection. The biggest one I have on a table with lights inside and at Christmas I put my nativity set inside with all my farm animals outside. I have many little barns in the kitchen too.

Theme decorating: I have a Scandanavian tree about 2 feet high in the living room behind the davenport. I have another 2 foot tree in the pass through between the kitchen and dining room. This is decorated on the kitchen side with lots of cooking goodies, the dining room side has bird stuff. On a shelf over the kitchen counter I have mini rollingpins and figures using rolling pins. I have the one my husband learned to bake with and one I got when I was little that says "Jesus is the bread of life". Over my art table I have a few santas and in my sewing room I have a tiny pink tree with tiny sewing stuff on it.
Obviously you can see I love to decorate.

Let's see,Fall decor will go up either this week or the beginning of next week. All Hallows decor goes up Oct 1,and stays up all month. Nov rings in Fall & Turkey decor, and right after Thanksgivin' I'll be putting up Yuletide & winter decor. I used to wait till Dec 1 to decorate, but see the need to do it earlier now. I should add that in Jan the Santas & elves & such get put away but I keep Winter decor out until Feb.

nin1952 I just came across this site and had to reply. My heart goes out to Louisana. So much has happened to you. You know God will bless you with a beautiful new city. Just you wait and see. I had to laugh at some of you. I feel the same way you do; I'd keep Christmas up everyday (much to my DH chagrin). I really don't decorate any other time of year, but Christmas is my favorite. So to me, the sky's the limit. When my family is gathered together on Thanksgiving day I ask my 2 S-I-L to bring my decorations from the shop out back. Then after we have finished eating, we spend some good quality time with our 2 DD's and the 4 GK's decorating the house.

LIVE simply, LOVE generously, CARE deeply, SPEAK kindly...Leave the rest to God.

Marly, this is scary! But I can see how you would be ready to do it right now. I hope you did not lose any of your decorations. And I hope you get to start as soon as you want. When I first read this, I thought, OMG, she really is jumping the gun just a little. But then I can totally understand. So you go, girl! Decorate away! I will look forward to seeing pictures soon. I could just look at your pictures and that will be enough for me. I don't do anything anymore except a little tree. And then only for the grands.

Have fun and take lots of pics!!

Marly, you live in the state of perpetual decorating! Girl you could decorate for Christmas in July and everyone else would just join in. I LOVE your state. We were sent to Biloxi for a year and right after Christmas (which I love to decorate for) I noticed that the garland on front porches were transforming into sparkling displays of green, purple and gold. The Christmas trees were changing also. What was happening?? I stopped at a home because they were changing the Christmas lights to those three different colors and I needed to know what I was missing out on. Mardi Gras!!!!! Your celebration had spilled over the border and all the homes were competing to out do each other. That went on through to March, then we went to New Orleans and ya'll were starting on Easter. Now that same garland was brightened up with pastel bows and colored Easter Eggs and new colored lights. I think if there was not a holiday in Louisiana to decorate for you'd just make one up!! LOL
We don't do halloween so our Christmas lights start going up in Oct. on the house and by the day after Thanksgiving I go into full blown Christmas decorating so it's done by the first of Dec.
I'm sorry you missed out on your decorating because of the hurricanes. Did you lose your decorations in the storms and have to start over getting new ones??
Smiles, Melody June

LOL Nancy. I missed decorating for Christmas four years in a row due to hurricane cleanup and rebuilding. I cannot wait to decorate. Maybe you can spend Christmas here in Louisiana. That way you won't have to decorate or me scared about it. LOL

I'm putting up my autumn decorations this week. I'll add the Halloween ones to it October 1, then switch them out November 1 for Thanksgiving. All of it will come down after Thanksgiving and then Christmas goes up next. I can't wait to get my fall stuff up!

My DH is scrooge when it comes to Christmas decorations. He likes them sort of for about a wk. After that they can be put away as far as he's concerned. I love them! I love seeing the twinkling lights reflected in the glass of pictures hanging on our walls and our mirrors. I love to sit with all the lights off except for the warm glow of Christmas lights. If you're nuts Marly you have plenty of companionship on this forum...LOL

I keep the Thanksgiving decorations up until Dec. 1. Then I decorate for Christmas. They come down on New Years day. Then everything is white (including snow on the ground. Feb. 1 I put up Valentines day. I like to have things up about a month. That's just the way it is. Without kids at home I need decorations. It's lonely when they live so far away.
