I too, am nesting for fall. I've already dried my sunflowers and brought them in to decorate with. I've brought out afghans and placed them on the sofa. I've cut back the summer flowers and am drying seed for next year. I've already started changing bed linens as it's been in the mid 40's at night around here. I'm an autumn freak and love getting ready for it!

the weather is trying to trick me into thinking it's autumn... it's only 67 degrees right now, a wonderful temperature to curl up inside and read... *sigh* only a little while longer until it really is fall!

I think it's cute that all the farmgirls LOVE fall! do ya think it could be a little bit of the "nesting" feeling? I can't wait to dip leaves in melted wax. It is one of the things my mom did with me to celebrate fall! Lucy |

i try to stave off my "fall fever" and not talk about fall too much when i think i should be concentrating on enjoying the end of summer... but now i've found this thread and can blame you gals for starting the autumn conversation before me! :) so i'll just join in and be happy.... because there is nothing i love more than fall!
i never really had what i consider a "real" fall growing up in arizona. i lived among pine trees and high desert, so not much in the line of changing leaves and that crisp coolness that starts blowing in to herald the season. then i moved to central california and hawaii for the navy, so still not much in the line of fall.
then i moved to wyoming... and although autumn doesn't last long enough for my liking here, it is glorious to have changing trees and that crispness in the air! since then, i've gone absolutely crazy for fall! i've bought my decorations and every year about this time (mid-July) i start pining for fall. i'll "accidentally" open my fall box and smell my favorite fall candle scent (yankee candles "autumn wreath") and just sigh... that's why i love my pumpkin and squash patch, i can watch them grow and think forward to the time i can use them for autumn meals! and they are just barely turning orange now so it really gets my stomach tingly with butterflies!
i also try not to look at the fall decorations in the stores (they put them out so early nowadays!). mid-september is when i officially allow myself for go crazy and fall into fall... we have a wedding in texas around that time this year. i asked my sister in law how warm it will be around that time... she said around 95 degrees! ack! it hasn't even been that hot here during this summer! hopefully when we get back from the wedding, it will feel like fall at home.
last year i celebrated fall with a friend by having a spa day. we lit the gingerbread and apple cider candles while enjoying this relaxing day, lounging in sweats enjoying the cool days.
i look forward to seeing the first cases of apple cider in the stores... i long to sip some hot apple cider while curled up on the couch and hearing the heater click on for the first time during the night when it starts to dip into the 20's and 30's during the night.
and then comes the heralding of winter... the first snowfall is my favorite!!!

Fall is just a very special time of year -- much more different than winter, an' always seems to me to be the big sigh of relief after all the torrid heat of summer.
Here along the shore, we've been hearing the geese getting ready for their fall migration -- been seeing more and more of them in groups (already!) circling the Sound. Tom sez there seem to be more of the ducks gathering in different lakes around the ports.
The garden is still doin' it's thing, tho, and today and tomorrow is supossed to be up in the mid 90's, so it is still summer.
But I'm lookin' forward to the end of the summer heat. And leaves are starting to fall from some of the hardwoods!!

Hehe--I think this is the first time ever in my whole life that I am looking forward to Fall coming and the sooner the better. :)
I normally love summertime and rue the time when it is over, but this year, being shaped more like Shamu I find the heat not to my preference and am dreaming of crispy crunchy leaves and the smell of apple cider brewing.
I haven't started decorating quite yet, but most definitly this year. I love love love pumpkins and we always do our fall carvings very early so we can do a few in the season. :)
I love the leave and fan idea. My kids would love it. Of course, I'll have to just fan them with leaves and add the gingerbread and cocoa :D

I countdown the days to fall and love observing the signs and changes in nature as it comes. My husband calls me a fall nut! My whole family is like that though. As soon as September 1st hits we start decorating. Actually I bought two decorations and put them on the mantle already.
There are so many festivals that happen during that time that I love each year. We take several leaf peeping trips around here and in Ohio. I can't wait until we can go to New England and see all the foliage. There's just something about autumn that renews my spirit. I love the coolness, crispness, and all the physical beauty it brings. Then of course the holidays are just around the corner after that. It's so much fun to be out in nature during the most colorful time of year!

Sharon what a cute idea for Alee. I so love fall its my favorite time of year also. I always look foward to the leaves changing and the cool crisp mornings! I just wish it would last longer. It stays hot here way to long for me!

Alee, if you have ceiling fans place leaves (real or silk) on the blades. Depending where the fan is, when she awakes greet her with some hot cocoa and gingerbread or pumpkin pancakes and turn the fan on :)

I LOVE fall!!! my favorite time of the year!! I also LOVE winter! I think it's the snuggled in feeling, the preparation for family gatherings, gift making, decorating, playing board games, renting good movies, HALLOWEEN!!!, thanksgiving, Christmas!!!! living up by the Great Lakes, when we get snow...WE GET SNOW!!! Love it!

Yep-I do that too-get the fall decor out,switch to Halloween decor,then Thanksgiving,and then it's Yuletide! I'm gettin anxious to get my fall goodies out but-it's too soon. I like to put seasonal garland across the top of my computer desk for all 4 seasons.

I've been thinking of getting some new fall decorations. I have a wreath, but I want some candles and leaves to decorate. I'm very excited about the change of a new season. Here in Georgia it's been hot for so long that I'm done with it!

I love also. I love the colors and the decorations. And the nesting feeling i get. Wanting to cook and clean and nestle down.
But I'm not ready to give up summer quite yet. Still enjoying putzing in the flowerbeds and getting sweaty out in the sun. And eating nothing but salads for supper................AHHHHHHHH summer.

I am so looking forward to fall. It is and has always been, my favorite season. I love crunching through the leaves and waking up on a cool morning and then it's getting pretty warm by late afternoon, then it cools off again. Out come the flannel shirts and hiking boots and it's just perfect for camping. I'm currently making a wreath to celebrate the seasons and of course, I started with autumn decorations. I love roasting root vegetables with olive oil and sea salt and sprigs of rosemary. The frost leaves intricate patterns on the windows and makes it look like fairies have visited overnight. The constellations change and the moon looks bigger and brighter than at any other time of the year. I agree with Dawn--autumn in the Midwest is the perfect season.

I can't wait, I love and miss having my coffee in the morn on the front porch with a old , soft and warm quilt wrapped around me while watching the sun come up, and again in the eve, watching the sun go down, with all the intense, most beautiful colors only this time of year has.

Yep, I was just commenting to my mother this weekend how it is soon time to get the fall decorations out...I enjoy them as much as the Christmas ones...I start with fall, add some halloween, then thanksgiving, and then it comes down and Christmas goes up! |

Fall is my absolute favorite season for the reasons mentioned above. The colors. I swear the sky turns a bluer blue against the rusts, crimsons, oranges and golds of the autumn leaves. The air gets that crispness that makes me wanna snuggle under a blanket with a nice hot cup of cappuccino. Our neighbors all have fire pits and the smell of burning wood and the occasional leaf that gets tossed on the flames just sends me into a serious state of zen. I love sitting on my front porch in warm clothes most especially at Halloween when all the kids in the neighborhood are out trick or treating and I sip my warm mug and get a charge out of the various costumes on parade. By then my garden is giving up the last of its treasures and I feel like nesting for the long winter ahead. How can you not love Autumn? Big smile.

I agree! I love the fall season - the changing of seasons is beautiful. I love the cool mornings, I take my coffee on the deck. Except for the lack of rain, we have had a wonderful summer and I hope it lasts for a while yet, but when the leaves start changing, I'm hooked, the anticipation of fall is a great feeling.
