Posted - Nov 06 2004 : 09:16:54 AM Handprint Sweatshirts what a wonderful idea. It would be fun to have a photo of the grandchild printed onto the back of the handprint sweatshirt. At our mall there is usually a booth during the holidays where you can have any photograph printed onto just about anything. One year we had a photo of my father that we took when he was about 55 and being very silly at the lake printed onto a coffee mug for him on his 75th birthday. He loved it and my mom could not believe I still had that photo. Fun Surprises. Eileen PS. Thankyou all for your prayers. Knee replacement surgery takes about 6 months to fully recover from so will be gimpy for a while but well worth it considering the alternative. Eileen

Posted - Nov 06 2004 : 08:10:45 AM Lorij. We had a cathedral ceiling in our family room and that was where we put up our tree. My husband put the eye screw into one of the beams and that is where it stayed for the coming years as needed. We hooked a piece of heavy picture wire into the eye screw and and then down to the top of the tree where my husband wrapped the wire around it about a foot from the top. This stabilized the tree to keep it from crashing down to the floor and breaking all the ornaments. This way when the kittens decided to climb it at least the ornaments were a bit safer. Some still got broken by the little kittys as they bat at them and they flew off but it saved some. I had not thought of wiring the ornaments onto the branches. This year my little one is our only grandson just 6 months old. Sure would love to go see him for christmas. I am having surgery on the 6th of december so we are trying to figure out how to get them to come to us. Eileen

Lorij, How I remember those days! Just thinking about some of them reminds me of cats, dogs,Kittens and kids of all sizes during the holidays. Many years in a row we put an eye-screw into the ceiling and wired the tree into a standing possition to keep it upright when the kids/cats/kittens/dogs decided to use the house as a race track and see how many things they could knock down in 15 seconds! Never will forget the year one of our cats decided that she liked the charge she got when she snipped the strings of christmas lights in half with one quick bite. I had put lights up the staircase banister, around every mirror in the house around every window including the ones in the upstairs bedrooms, around the book cases and a lot of other places and in one afternoon while we were out shopping the cat went around and bit them all in half! The only ones she did not ruin were on the outside of the house. Some days the baby just needs rocking and we must simply slow down and allow the peace of quiet sitting flow through us. I am sending quiet peaceful energy to you OK? Eileen

Posted - Nov 05 2004 : 1:45:14 PM LOL Lorij! You gave me my chuckles for the day dear lady! I know there are some of those days when we women don't know whether to laugh or cry. My woes usually involve worrying about my girls... My oldest girl {22 years } Seems like that child will never get her head screwed on straight! I too just have to hand my burdens to God. He is always waiting there for me when I'm too darn tired to finish the race I am running that day to comfort and hold me close. Your life and family sounds so lively and fun and loving bayoubunch!
I love your cat climbing the tree story! A recent stray cat my oldest gave me from her apartment pooped today in my wire basket full of ornamental corn and gourds. I thought to myself as I cleaned it up " I am still cleaning up her messes in some way and I probably always will, from diapers to broken hearts to stray cats...this is motherhood and grandmahood and I rejoice! Life in the 'hood goes on and on. We gotta laugh.

Posted - Nov 05 2004 : 06:11:47 AM Lori - your life is so full and varied - from soldiers to snow fairies! I will pray that Kris reports in to the family soon. It is probably as hard on him as on you all to be out of touch.
Have fun with those costumes - you are making memories! And I agree that you will have more fun traveling if you have and stay in a trailer (a little home on the road).

Posted - Nov 04 2004 : 11:18:28 AM I pray for your boys often, Lori. How did they feel about the election results?
So, you are traveling into north Florida for 6 weeks? Will you be in Pensacola or anyplace that is still cleaning up? I think that finding a place to stay right now may be difficult not because of crowds of people, but because many places on the Gulf Coast are still rebuilding. Where will you be? Maybe I can give you some info.

Posted - Nov 04 2004 : 08:30:23 AM My candles are burning for the troops as well. Meadowlark, How I remember the 60s and 70s and all those fine young men I knew who never came back. I have in my collection of old stuff several letters I received from a few of them. Many came to me mud smeared and tear stained. I keep a very special place in my heart for all that served there and now for all that serve in this ongoing battle. Eileen

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 7:24:14 PM lorij, My youngest daughter and I at bedtime have said prayers for the troops in the MidEast since all this began 3 years ago...and now saying prayers for your boys and the LA Brigade... Good to hear they made it in safe and will continue to hold them close in our hearts and prayers. I always tell my Vietnam Vet friends a special thank you for their service to our country and have a special place in my heart for them although I was young in the 60's and early to mid 70's. I will never forget...

Posted - Oct 30 2004 : 08:26:18 AM Eileen - I hope you get to see your grandson soon! But, yes, you are lucky to have the photos and phone calls. Just think, if we were farm women one hundred years ago, we would not have that gift of being with them even when we are not with them!
I never take my granddaughter for granted, or my daughter. They are here in town now, but who knows what the future holds? So I hug them (too much, probably) and never leave their house wihtout saying I love you.
Maybe you should hitch a ride to wherever they are at X-mas!

I can't wait for the photo of that one. I might not get to go see him for christmas but I get photos every week and phone calls galore! I guess I am pretty lucky huh? Eileen
