Was just invited to a friends for a impromptu holiday get together. She is making a turkey. Want to bring something nice that I might be able to make with things around the house (since we had an ice storm last night) Any ideas???

I have an addition to Rebekka's post! I do the same thing with the ice....but instead, I take a 9" or so pie tin (non stick or glass) fill it with the same stuff....then take a pint size container & place it in the center of the pie pan...fill it with rocks or something heavy to weight it to the bottom. Then Freeze. When you're about to leave, take it out of the freezer, run a little warm water into the pint containter to loosen it, and run the outside of the pan under lukewarm water. Then take twine & Twala!! You have a beautiful outdoor ice & berry wreath! I made these for my mom & inlaws last year and they lasted for months outside. Email me if you want to see a picture! Ok-
How about a 'Fire and Ice' centerpiece for the evening- take a low metal or glass pie plate (or a dish or whatever you can find) and fill it 2/3 of the way with water- then take some festive greenery or berries and spread them out in the water. Now take three or five votive candles (try to use the same color and scentless if you are putting them on the table near food)and place them around in the water (they must obvoiusly stick up out of the water so the wics are dry). Now freeze this outside or in the freezer and pull it out when you are ready to leave! The firelight will look so pretty against the melting ice and natural clors- you should set this on a kitchen towel or placemat (maybe with a little plastic underneath) to keep the condensation from ruining whatever surface you place it on.
Other good ideas-
a pin cushion made form scrap fabrics and embellished with a few buttons, beads, etc.
A simple swag or wreath made with greenery from the yard and a bow (the bow can be any color- a strip of fabric, ribbon, raffia, etc.)

tea, scented pillows like dream pillows and sachets. I once made a wreath real quick from the Eucalptus in the yard for just this very thing. Birch teas and willows work well for this also. A jar of cookie dough mix is another idea, if you keep wine in the house a bottle of wine is always a nice gift even if they don't drink they can cook with it. Some ideas.
