I would love to have a real one. But I'm not even in the mood for putting up the artifical one I have. Can't have a real one here because my folks are allergic to them. Always had real ones while the kids were younger, but I didn't live close to my folks either. There were a few years when we bought living trees and then planted them outside, but my current place is not that big! Since the kids won't be here for Christmas and my cats would probably think it was a new toy for them, I may not put any up at all. Besides I would have to dig through the shed to get to my decorations and that just does not sound like fun in the 'teen temps we are currently having! Brrrrr....

I think artificial this year, I can't seem to bring myself to spending $70 for a real one this year.........................although my thoughts change hourly, guess I will know for sure when we put the tree up this week.

It's looking like NONE so far. I have an art. tree. And we go cut one, too. But right now my living room is full of dining room furniture. So I'm not even feeling like Christmas right now. But I so enjoy hearing about everyone elses trees and traditions. The contracter should be done by Tues. next week and then maybe we'll throw one up for the kids. Or I could go get a small one and put it on top of the dog crate! That's an idea.

In my family, it's either a live tree or no tree depending on the amount of funds available to us on that given year. We hate chopping down and killing trees unnecessarily for Christmas so we try to get a new tree. After the holidays we plant the tree on our property. It's very nice to be able to give back to the earth like that!

Artificial, sadly. I would love to have a real tree, but there's two things against it:
1) My husband is a total spoilsport. He has scruples about cutting down a tree just for our enjoyment (although we could leave it in the yard for bird shelter, and then burn it in the summer). Plus, he keeps threatening to make me watch video of Xmas trees catching fire and burning down the house.
2) My grandpa gave us his magnificent artificial tree when we moved into our house and he decided he wasn't up to decorating anymore. He's 83. I like to have the tree up and decorated when he comes over on Chistmas Eve to show him that I appreciate it.
Maybe someday I'll get to have the real tree of my dreams. Meanwhile, I'm planning to make do with a vase of pine branches on the table. I always seem to be able to locate a spot where someone has trimmed a tree in their yard. |

Real...every year since my husband and I have been together, we go and pick out a tree. There is a garden shop down the street from us that has very well priced trees. So many people around here say that real trees are so expensive. We got about a 5.5-6ft tree for under $30. I don't think that's bad at all. I remember going with my parents as a kid and trees being $40+.
And Linda, we do the same thing. He hold it and I look at it. We search the entire lot for "the perfect tree".
We actually just did this today and now I'm sitting snuggly on the couch looking at my beautifully lit Christmas tree!

Real from a local tree farm. We cut our own. The farm offers wagon rides, which the kids love, and we alway run into people we know. It is a fun, memory building experience.

Both, but our main tree is real , we use to cut at a tree farm, but these days I buy one leaning against the store building and have DH hold it up while I go a distance and see how it looks with my hand on my chin sayin hummmm!!! and dh saying "well".
I think we are going back to the old days when we took our kids to the tree farms to find the perfect tree,our tallest was a 14ft. This time it will be with our grandkidsand grown kids. I miss those days. You know they use to serve White Chilli at the tree farms and you got to ride on horse drawn wagons. Sometimes paying a little more you get a lot in memories.
The very best tree would be the live ones and plant but your limited to size and they do cost but you get a tree for your yard. We take our cut trees out and set up for the birds to hang out in with things to eat and then they go in the ditches for animals to use. So it does get its good use, but oh the smell of the Christmas tree. I do love that part.

I have to have an artificial tree as I am allergic to the real ones. As a small child I was always sick at Christmas time with pneumonia. All of my Santa pictures (he came and visited our home as I was always sick before Christmas) are of me in my night gown. My kids get a kick at looking at a sickly looking kid. After I got married and I got so sick that first year that my new doctor stated that it was not pneumonia but an allergic reaction. Oh well my husband still loves me, after 25 years. even if he can't have a real tree. He really loves that smell. I try and make a wreath for outside but my hands swell up so much that I usually direct while he puts it together.

Real! When we lived in BC we used to cut our own tree every year- that was fun. Now, in S. Ontario, firs don't grow around here (too warm) so we just get one from the nursery at the bottom of the hill.

Artificial here. We have to have such a small one with limited space that it almost seems cruel to take a baby tree from the woods. ;) Maybe when we get into the new house next year, we will get a real one that is all growed up.

I have a fake one but only because short needle pine trees don't grow in Arkansas and I HATE long needle ones. They are so ugly and you can't vacuum up the needles. My fake is a prelit and all the lights burned out this year so I had to string lights on it. Guess well have to get a new one when they go on sale after Christmas!

Artificial but this is the last year. It rusted on the metal parts...it is getting harder to assemble. I really want to buy one we can replant...I think it is worth the effort.

Artificial. I live with two cats, one who like to lay under the tree (not too bad) and one who likes to climb the tree (very dangerous). Also, I can reuse the tree every year. I like not cutting down a perfectly beautiful and healthy tree just to throw it away a few days after the holidays.
Now, if I had a place that would allow a fireplace, or a place I could get a live tree (not cut) and plant it in the yard, that would be OK. I do miss the smell of the real tree though. Maybe next year we can afford the small live tree and give it to my dad after.

Artificial - the same one I've had for 20 years. It's starting to look kind of bedraggled so this may be the last year. I always had real trees before that. It was always a big family tradition when my oldest daughter was little to go get the tree. My youngest has never had a real tree. I always laugh and say she things Christmas trees come from a box!

I prefer a real tree too.. But beings we had to buy an artificail tree in Arizona ( real one I bought which was very expensive, & fresh from Oregon, the first year there dropped its needles within 4 days. It was too hot there.).so This year knowing we were not going to be home for the holidays & I wanted to have pictures of my grandboys decorating it I opted for a fake just to have the picture..It is going out after Christmas. There is nothing like the smell of a Fresh pine tree.. mmm mmmmm

I don't think I could handle an artificial tree. There is something about the smell and look of a real tree that I LOVE. Thankfully, we have trees on our property that were grown specifically for Christmas trees.
At work, we have 9 artificial trees that we decorate, so I'm happy to come home to my real one. Though my husband has a 2 foot fiber optic artificial tree that we have in the house as well. :)
