Hi all-
each year my family draws names at Thanksgiving and then gives a gift to that one person come Christmas. This year I had the brilliant idea of changing things to include a handmade gift for your person also. Problem is, I don't know how to make anything! Of course I can do cookies and the basics like that but I was going for something a little more personal. My gift is for my sister. She is 33, mother of two. She is far craftier then I. She mostly knits. I would love any ideas that any of you might have. I am open to doing something i have never tried so far, just not something that requires a lot of experience for it to turn out well. I would like it to be a thoughtful & lovely gift. I am more then willing to put in the time.

I make candles by using the plain white tall ones in the clear glass jars (found at walmart for under a dollar) they are in the area that sells reglious candles. Than I use my xryon machine and run a vintage pic. through Holiday or any other kinda I like if you don't have a xyron use a good glue stick. Stick your image on than I use glitter glue pens to decorate the pic in certain areas and add ribbon around top.

that is adorable! thank you so much for posting it. i decided on cranberry liquor. but i may need to add this strawberry too. or i could i turn it into a cranberry? : )

Oh yeah, excuse the dog/cat hair...it's just a requirement in our household. Anything "wool" instantly attracts it, even pincushions!!! :) |

Here are the photos of the strawberry pin cushion I mentioned. The black "dots" are little beads sewn on. Really cute, and though I removed the pins so you could actually see it, I really use it alot!

You can also make a needle case from two place mats. Minimal sewing and there are such cute ones out there now you're bound to find something that your sis will like. :)

Sherri, I really enjoyed that, too. My MIL made me one for a birthday gift because I can never keep those darn circular needles in check! Then she made me another for my straight ones :) They are portable, and I love them to pieces!
Another idea is if she sews at all, you could make a sand filled pincushion (sand keeps the needle edges sharp) out of recycled felted wool sweaters. You can make any design you want (I have a strawberry made from an old burgandy herringbone blazer) and I adore it! It also has a pretty little Victorian era button for embellishment. I use the heck out of it, too! |

Hey Pen Pal! You could even use a pillowcase from the thrift store for your fabric. The measurements sound like about 1/2 of a pillowcase. Try a practice one first on the thrift pillowcase. You could even use fat quarters too, which are usually pretty inexpensive, for your final product. Then you will get a lot of bang for your buck as well!
