Posted - Sep 02 2008 : 12:18:56 AM Normally I NEVER EVER payed taxes on packages I receive from the USA. I mean, the content only (and I mean only as, nothing else) 3 very cute Christmas decorations, no food or anything else. So why I have to pay, no idea!! I am happy with the ornaments, they are SO cute and pretty. And for the rest: Don't worry about sending items, just IF you need to add a value, don't put a high value, just the lowest possible. If I send a package to the USA I always put on a low value, like a few dollars. Esp when it is handmade, just a few dollars and that is fine. So the mail-art is NO problem, magazines no problem, most items NO problem also. SO SEND ME PACKAGES!!!! (just a joke)

Posted - Sep 01 2008 : 8:03:42 PM OH Wowzers! I have no idea who your swap partner was either. This is probably a really silly question, but as I don't have much experience with shipping outside of the US....
Marian, I saw your name on the mail art list the other day when I was scrolling down through there. When one of the gals sends you mail art will you have to pay taxes on that too or is it just packages? And do you have any tips for us gals who aren't so mail savvy to help say cut out the taxes or at least make them really small?
I mean sometimes when one of the gals is down and out due to illness or just in a financial bind some of the gals like to send a lil goodie box to brighten thier day. But we definately wouldn't want to cause anymore of a hardship to one of our sisters.

Posted - Sep 01 2008 : 7:18:48 PM Oh Marian, I don't know who sent you the ornaments but I do understand about the tax. I sent a package for Christmas one year to my brother in Canada and they had to pay a lot on it. Decided to send them gift cards and things along those lines. Obviously someone was doing an RAOK or a swap and didn't realize that I'm sure. I wasn't aware either when I sent the package but my brother was nice enough to let me know about it.
