When do y'all start decorating for Halloween? I love the Halloween colors of orange, burnt orange, reds, etc... I love putting pumpkins out by the door.

I don't have my own place (I live at my sorority at college) and so I don't really get to decorate. When I get my own house I definitely plan to decorate as early as I can...probably the first week of Oct, or last week of Sept. I absolutely love the fall season and Halloween!

I really don't do too much "Hallween" decorating, but I love to decorate for fall. Its my favorite season. Put things up around Oct. 1st and keep it up until the day after Thanksgiving.

We bring out our fall stuff the end of August or first week of September. The kids and I do fall decos - we don't get into halloween that much - and we start by decorating our homeschool area. Plus, if you only do fall, the decos stay up til Thanksgiving, when you can change over to Christmas, which means less work!

I usually start the first weekend in Oct. I love Halloween and fall in general. I use to really go all out when my daughter was growing up and then later on stopped . Now that we have a little one again, I have started back as my grandson really loves it.

I've picked up loads of Halloween themed items at Joann's and Hobby Lobby on clearance from previous years and I keep the knick knacky things on display all the time indoors. It's Halloween 24/7 at my house. Outside I put up my decor anytime in September and leave it through November.

Christina, Very cool idea using the concrete! I love the idea of the Forbiden Forest with branches hanging! My daughters were in a Waldorf school that hung large branches over the reading area and hung seasonal things from it. Perhaps a branch would be just the thing! Yea!

Dana your tree decorations sound very cool! I would love to see some pictures if you have time post them.

As far as your tree being able to stand firmly maybe you could buy a bag of quick-crete to pour in the bottom of the pot and then top it off with some spanish moss or something to hide the concrete. It would be heavy but very sturdy. When my children were much younger I had painted their rooms to look like the Forbiden Forest from Harry Potter. Besides the murals I hung dead branches from the ceiling with little eye hooks and fishing line. Maybe that would be an option if you decide not to go with such a big branch.

Yes, Labor Day is usually when I put out the autumn decorations, I wait until Oct. 1st for Halloween decorating. I put mums and pumpkins out on the front porch and I have a autumn leaf table runner I use in the entry area.

Can't wait!!

I want to have a Halloween tree this year. I made decorations last year and had a family crisis come up and it got put on hold. I knitted up some little black cats, candy corn and witch's hats. I have a lovely beaded ornament to knit that is a jack-o-lantern. Over the years the kids and I have strung indian corn and I'll add that. Here's my question..... How do I bring in a large branch (dead of course) and stand it in my living room? I have thought of putting it in a terra cotta flower pot, but what do I stabilize it with? Ideas?

There's a good chance I'll be bringing out my fall decorations this week. As soon as school starts (which was last Tuesday) I get in a fall mood. It'll be a miracle if I can wait till October to add the Halloween decorations. Some of the stores around here are already getting their fall & Halloween stuff out. And, once they start, it takes a LOT of willpower for me not to go crazy with it!

Ususally the first full week in September I start pulling out the fall decorations. With the exception of Halloween themed items. They have to wait until October. Although this year the kiddos are making us some new ones. So once they get them done I am sure I am going to just leave them out. I am so excited to see what they make! Our Fall decorations always stay up the longest for the year overall. Christmas gets less than a month as the tree comes down the day after. Sometimes the same day. I can't stand the mess they make.

Labor Day weekend I pull out all the fall decorations, inside and outside. I love to have time to enjoy them, time just goes too fast!!
MissDana Posted - Aug 25 2008 : 06:49:37 AM
If I can wait until the first of October! My daughter is biting at the bit to decorate for fall! We've had a week of cooler weather and Halloween is our favorite holiday! Beats Christmas in my book due to the fact that you decorate and cook special foods and then there's the candy! But best of all - no presents to make or buy!!! Ah, and then there's the colors.... love the palate of fall. Now I've got myself all worked up! I'll go make myself some spiced tea and pull out a basket of acorns from last year!

I usually wait until The first week of Oct. I love going to the pumpkin farms and picking out pumpkins, getting apple cider, and finding cool stuff for the yard!
