Posted - Oct 16 2005 : 4:16:35 PM Since I am an urban farmgirl we get quite a few "trick or treaters" at Halloween. We have a pretty good size front porch on a very old house so it lends itself well to creepy and kinda scary on Halloween night. I try not to get too caught up in the store bought stuff, but try to do things with stuff around the house and carved pumpkins. This year I am planning on using some old jeans of my husband's along with his work boots, leather work gloves and an old shirt and making a headless guy. Usually I put him in a chair on the porch, but this year I think I will prop him up and tie him to the porch pillar closest to the stair to have him standing. I think then I put one leg/foot propped up on the pumpkin at his feet. I have some fake stuffed crows (Martha Stewart) that I will have perched around him. Maybe if I am creative enough I'll get a black sillouhette done for our round window in the front door, maybe of a witch head or black cat.

Posted - Oct 19 2005 : 8:08:43 PM Clare, your blog picture is too, too funny. You know I have to copy that scarecrow for my front yard. Glad you have a blog started, too. I love being on this forum. The posts are like my bread and butter, but the blogs are like dessert. Can't wait to read more!

Posted - Oct 19 2005 : 12:56:27 PM You can also cover your window in plain white paper or butcher paper, and cut the sillouhettes out of black paper, put them on top of the white and put a light behind..looks wonderful and easier and cheaper than the plywood for THIS year!. Martha actually did that first. If anyone wants a copy of the patterns I would be glad to snail mail them a photocopy! |

Posted - Oct 19 2005 : 08:35:40 AM Anne-Martha Stewart does have great stuff for Halloween. I bought a special Halloween issue one year, but there it sits. I keep thinking next year will be the year.
Clare-That picture was great. Someone has a good imagination! Jan |

Posted - Oct 17 2005 : 6:33:36 PM Yup, that's me - love that headless horseman. Speaking of silouettes, I saw in the Martha Stewart (okay, I like some of her stuff)October issue of living - she shows how to cut a silouette of a wicked witch and her kitties out of a piece of plywood. It is great, saving the article to do next year - didn't have enough time to do this year.
