So, what are your plans - going camping, hometown get together, picnic in the park (or at the creek), cookout with family and fireworks?

We do the latter, along with playing in the water to cool down.

This is one year I'm wishing I had found MJs earlier, so I would have an outdoor kitchen area already set up! Who knew? Last year I wasn't even "thinking" outdoor kitchen - just making do with the charcoaler or smoker!

I was reading one post and learned salmon with a traditional food for the Fourth in Maine. Not here! We usually do burgers and hot dogs.

One of our traditions is to let the grandkids make homemade rootbeer. They love it and it shows them they can make something unusual, too!

We usually have a huge watermelon basket filled with all kinds of fresh fruit. It is really a pretty centerpiece as well as tasting great!

And depending on who ask first, we either have Four Layer Chocolate Pie or Apple Pie and homemade ice cream, well sometime we have blackberry cobbler instead of apple pie.

Ocassionally we go into town to watch the big firework display, but as the grandkids get a little older, they like to set off their own fireworks. Thankfully, we have had lots of rain recently, so that helps keep down the chance of fire. Two years ago, no one was thinking of setting off any fireworks around here.

Our house will be running over, as well as the yard. But next year, I'm gonna have that outdoor kitchen thing for sure!

So, what are you doing and what traditions do you keep?

We're just going to be going to the MIL's house for the day. BBQ, pool and fireworks. It's going to be different this year because the MIL invited the FIL to attend, they're kind of planning it together, actually. They've been divorced for well over 20 years but maybe this is a sign we'll actually be able to do holiday activites all together instead of two seperate get together. Wouldn't that be nice! It's always been kind of strained before.

We are probably going to Fort Knox. It's a family tradition to go to the ceremony at Fort Knox where they honor each of the 50 states and shoot off a round for each state. It's not very exciting but we've been going for years and now my husband enjoys it. It's something to do with my father....he loves Fort Knox due to family history. Then we hang out in the Patton Museum and gift shop and then grab some grub and head back towards home. It's the only way I know how to celebrate the 4th!

HI, that sounds great! In a sense, sort of like what I am doing this year. We are going up to my parent's and my mom's is having a little party for the immediate family. We're having burgers and all, home-made ice cream... and such, and THEN.. we are going on their boat as they live by the lake... to have a good time and watch the fireworks all around... We may even see the neighbourhood parade they hold each year before everything.. we'll see about that though. I am looking forward to it! Have a wonderful 4th!! :D

I think I'll be off Friday but my husband has to work so I think I might ride over with him and go to a movie or something. Richmond has a nice fireworks display each year so we'll probably go and watch those. Then we are getting up early Saturday and heading down to Miss Wilma's!!

The little town I live in has a huge 4th of July parade, then a carnival after and fireworks in the evening.
We will most likely watch the parade since it goes by up the street from us. Fireworks in the evening and possibly the street dance at the carnival.

besides the drunks staggering back to their cars, I love this time of year.

I do volunteer work at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, so I'll be working the Big Bug Tent Sale in the afternoon. We'll come home, have a cookout and then watch the fireworks off our front deck. We get a great view from several neighboring towns and our neighbor's (licensed pyro technicians) put on a display at their house. All that without having to deal with the crowds!

My plan is to fly by the seat of my pants. That's so not like me. I always have a plan for everything and every occasion. Jeremy, my fiance, on the other hand just gets there when he gets there for most everything except a George Strait concert.

My kiddos are spending the weekend with their dad. My sister is having a cookout at her house followed with a BIG light show. John Michael Montgomery is going to be at the casino in French Lick, IN on the 4th. And Jeremy's family is having a family reunion this holiday weekend. And of course you can't forget the stray yardsale and flea market.

So I will be somewhere around any of those events. Good luck to anyone who tries to find me!

We are going to a friend's party that they hold every 4th, way out in the country. The house sits on 5 acres, and it's very kid friendly, everyone brings a dish, and the end of the night is a nice fireworks display. Can't be out too late, though, because the next morning, my mom and I are getting up early to head down to Miss Wilma's Orchard Sale!!! Woohoo!!!

We are departing from the norm this year and heading to my sister's in Florida. On the Fourth, we will be at SeaWorld enjoying being all together before Nathan heads off for basic training. The "kids" (25,22,19) don't know we are going- it's a total surprise. hee hee
