Easter is my favorite religious holiday because it is the fulfillment of the Promise Jesus made about Eternal life.

As an Eastern Holy Man, he would be appalled that we celebrate his birthday because in the Eastern tradition it is what one accomplishes in one's life that matters. Anyone can accomplish birth.

Jesus knew he must fulfill all of the Old Testament prophesies in order to be recognized as the Messiah the Jews were waiting for. Of course, we know that they didn't recognize him becdause he was a spiritual Messiah and they were waiting for a military leader who would crush their oppressors and set them free. The just didn't understand the kind of freedom he offered.

Still, Jesus did his part, even to the dying a horrible death part. And then, he shook off the vestages of his human body and showed the world that we are so much more than physical. Like him, we are eternal. Like him, each of us conquers death and returns to oneness with the Father, God, The universe, whatever you call it.

That is why Easter is so special to me. That is why I am willing to go the distance with him throughout this weekend of suffering. That is why I will sit at the foot of the cross and outside of Joseph of Aramathea's tomb and wait for my Lord to re-appear. I know he will and then, I will rejoice.

May Easter give new hope to everyone, whatever situation you are in. He always keeps his promises. And may each of you enjoy the blessings of Allaha (Aramaic for God) abundantly.

love,
Patricia

PS If anyone is offended by this thread I apologize and will not do this kind of musing anymore. At this is the time of year I really miss pastoring my church. Just let me know.

Pastor Patty...I'll be watching for your next column

Have a great weekend,

You made my day! When you are doing what you came to do, there is nothing like the feeling you get and for me, that is ministry. Thank you for encouraging me to continue to get that feeling, although I must say that my work with the animals and with the Aramaic bible does satisfy that need as well.

I'll be posting a new "column" soon. I'll be interested in your feedback.

love,
Patricia

I have been thinking a lot about change today. When I was a kid, Easter was a big Italian feast with family and friends.

In my circle of friends, we girls were allowed to choose our Easter finery, either a suit or a coat. I particularly loved my patent leather shoes and wore them even if it was icy. There were no egg hunts or anything like that but I always got a hollow chocolate bunny.
Then there came marriage (disaster), children and grandchildren. And now I get phone calls from them on the holiday, and sometimes my oldest son who lives fairly close, invites Stuie and me over. And so Stuie and I cook together, read together, nap, and it's good.

What big changes! Anyway, I'm grateful that Stuie and I are together and it's kinda nice not having to have a lot of people over. Maybe I'm getting old. (This is the part where you say, "NO, Patricia, not YOU!) lol.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday, however you spend it!

Love,
Patricia

With a sick child and everything else that has happened this month (2 other bouts of illness) we have decided to celebrate Easter next month. This is a special holiday for us we would like to continue to celebrate it in a special way.. Easter just snuck up on me, didn't even realize it was this month until about 5 days ago.. I was in no way prepared..everyone enjoy your day!

Blessings, Debra

This year we will not be doing anything special for easter besides just being together. We can't afford to, but then we have never fallen into the whole easter basket tradition.. As we felt that it took away from the true reason we celebrate Easter. Jeff will pick up a special piece of fruit for them to enjoy on Easter morning to celebrate..

Blessings, Debra

Thanks, Patricia. Your words remind us to stop and think about what Easter means, it's certainly not just about the chocolate bunnies and "who's bringing what" to the family dinner.

Hugs,
