Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 1:21:25 PM I ran into a friend that I haven't visited with for quite a while at JoAnne's yesterday - she used to be my boss when I worked at House of Fabrics so you know it's been awhile - and she said "Oh, I have your christmas and birthday gift at home - I would have brought them if I'd known I was going to run into you!" Well, of course I don't have a gift for her - it's been 10 years since we've exchanged gifts, but now I need something because I would feel really funny not giving her something when she gives me TWO gifts. Any ideas? I'd make her a quick knit hat or scarf, but she's not really the type. HELP!!!!!

Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 6:21:40 PM Make up a quick basket with all the suggestions above. Add something that is personal to her ie: say she is into cats, add some kitty fabric or a pin, etc.

Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 5:09:17 PM No - she sends me a card every year and we talk on the phone. She is the yardage manager at Wal-Mart and I see her there. Probably we've seen each other more this past year because of her new job than we have in 10 years. She was always a big gift and card giver, I guess she just thinks we have re-renewed our friendship to the gift level again. I am thinking now that I probably won't see her until after christmas because I won't be in the Wal Mart again til then, so I probably have a few days reprieve. I doubt that she has 10 yers worth of gifts piled up - I HOPE not, I just think in her mind, we have gotten a lot closer through our more frequent contact this past year. That, and she has had some serious family problems that may be driving her closer to her friends - I'm a pretty good listener.

Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 3:13:10 PM Perhaps she has dementia and doesn't really remember anything, no trying to be smart, but this can hit at any age. do what is right in your heart and give what you don't grudge to give, I would say..even if she has dementia. Bless both your hearts, Pauline

Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 3:08:25 PM Are you sure you're going to see her again? If you haven't exchanged gifts in 10 YEARS, it seems strange to me that she'd say that. Maybe she was just trying to be nice. But then again... does she have 10 years worth of gifts at home for you?? :P

Posted - Dec 21 2007 : 2:57:32 PM Not that this will help you right now, but whenever I bake, I always double the batch. (Unfortunately, in the last two years, I've been to too many funerals and such, so I became prepared). I freeze half the batch wrapped up in pretty tissue paper and now I always have a "gift" available whenever I need it.
I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by. ~anon |
