Well this is exactly a holiday but it was a day for environmentally-minded folks to get together communally. I volunteer at a nature preserve near my home, and today (June 5) was National Trails Day.
Six volunteers, under my direction, helped clear and mulch a trail at the Preserve. We started at 9 and worked until noon, saw a lot of wildlife while working, and found 34 snapping turtle eggs in the mulch pile, which we tried to save by re- burying them nearby. This preserve was donated to the state some 16 years ago and nothing much was done until a volunteer program was set up, so it's exciting to be a part of it. Happy trails to all

Cecelia,

Sounds like great work and a great time. Hope the little turtle eggs like their new home!
