What are your plans for the big weekend coming up? I know JP will be celebrating 2 extra birthdays on the 4th besides the USAs!!! Are ya going to the beach, relatives, the mountains, hills, festivals, the park, or your own backyards for an all American celebration? Do you shoot fireworks/watch big displays? Do you pack up a picnic basket and find a shady spot and just soak up the high summer beauty? Celebrate safely and have a blast!!!! Here's to America, Happy 229th !!!

Amen Bayoubunch. It is not called Independence Day for nothing. Americans can be proud of the men (and women now) who willingly stand up for this country and do it with sincerity and courage and love. It makes me cry sometimes to see such young and handsome faces in a uniform, and know that they are wearing it for our country. God Bless them all.

Say thank you to anyone you know that has served in the military. And remember those from decades ago who gave their all. We take it all so for granted sometimes. A high price has been paid many times over for the freedoms we have, and that includes the freedom to openly disagree.

We have fireworks over the lake, which is just a few blocks from our house. This year I'm going to set out a big quilt on our front lawn and the kids and I will sit out and watch them :). My hubby has to work that night :(

We can watch a nice unobstructed view of two town fireworks displays in our pasture. Our Dexters don't mind the intrusion. We have to sit in our car because of the mosquitos. When I am watching the fireworks I will be thinking of ya JP, and wishing you a happy birthday, along with your daughter.

We usually have a long extended family campout in PA but the weather has been so crummy we are rescheduling for August. So that leaves us to town parades, a new thing at the County Park called Freedom Fest w/ fireworks and picnics galore! If we are here we usually go to the symphony outdoors and the last set is of very patriotic songs and the fireworks began at the moment the last note is heard! We set up our camp table and chairs and dine by candlelight. VERRY civilized! On the other hand the kids run around with glow sticks and glow in the
dark footballs and what have you and act like crazy hooligans until the fireworks start. Let's just say a good time is had by all! Happy 4th to all of you!

with a happy heart

Our city has a big all day celebration at one of our parks, too, but it is sooooo hot and muggy and the smoke from the fireworks hangs over the park, and you have to take buses in and out! Not my idea of fun, because I do not like big crowds of people. Or smoke. Or bugs biting my legs all night long. And it takes hours to get home afterward, not fun when you have a little one who is tired.

So, instead of that torture, my best friend is having a cook-out at her house and she has a pool. I am taking the home-made ice cream (with fresh Mississippi peaches), and a big bottle of Pinot Grigio. I am going to pretend it is my party. I am good at that, since I pretended the whole country was celebrating my birthday when I was a child. On Sunday, I am having my daughter and her family for dinner and to just hang out and celebrate HER birthday. I am getting sparklers and stuff for that, as my little granddaughter will not have seen those before. I am baking a chocolate layer cake and putting blueberries and strawberries on white icing to make it look patriotic. I even got sparker candles.

Oh, and I am cooking an MJF veggie bakeover for part of the dinner, and grilling fish!

Our little town goes all out..parade in the morning and stuff going on at the park all day...watermelon bust, greased pole contest, egg toss, Miss 4th of July pageant, patriotic speakers, games and booths for the kids....we will be barbquing here with family in our backyard in the late afternoon and will get together with family and freinds to do a big fireworks party after dark. At 10pm the town fireworks show will be over at the fairgrounds and we usually bring a blanket and sit on the lawn at the high school to see them..long day but fun. And my husband is off work..that will be nice!
